[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Come on Spotify... Just put native support for HomePods, how hard is it? Your community has asked for this for 4 years now!

I can't see another reason for not doing that other than pure stubbornness!!!

Please allow native HomePod support on Spotify! Even if this is just a premium-only feature, it’s still better than asking Siri to play something, hoping Siri finds what you’re looking for, then dealing with delays when pausing, skipping, or changing the volume.

It seems that Apple has opened up a bit, and is letting Spotify be on HomePod. If this is true, I’m not sure what the wait is.

I want to ask Siri “Play Summer Pop Mix on Spotify” (maybe not even have to say on Spotify!) and Siri is able to find it, and I can listen to it without delays to the controls.

Right now, I’m feeling the urge to switch to Apple Music so I can use my HomePod, but I really don’t like their interface, but I like Spotify’s interface. I also like how I can pair Spotify with my Philips Hue bulbs, and Spotify’s end-of-year wrap up.

Anyway, on behalf of myself and a majority of Spotify subscribers, we hope that this gets implemented.

This Live Idea is in top 10 by number of votes.
The other ideas may have voters from different platforms.. For this one, it’s just the HomePod users.

Switched all of my HomePods to Apple Music and have no regrets. Spotify has slept on this issue so long they are never going to integrate.

I’m enjoying the much larger music selection and hi-fi audio quality (another thing Spotify has promised and not delivered). So if you have HomePods and are on the fence make the switch, nothing better at Spotify anymore.

@outofspc what software did you use to migrate your playlists to apple?

OutofSpc

@dank13 I used Playlisty for Apple Music, was worth the minimal cost ($3) for the pro version over the free sources out there. I think you can do a limited transfer or demo to see results before buying it, can’t remember.

I can’t believe this will have to be the reason to leave Spotify after 6 years! How sad.. just like many others here first I thought Apple was the blocker but now that knowing there was enough time implement this but no appetite I need to solve it somehow.. homepod is also problematic with their connection issues, dropping airplay constantly especially for those using a mesh network, however a native support for Spotify could simply solve this issue.

Spotify could significantly boost its user base and improve user experience by enabling native HomePod mini support.

Imagine this: seamlessly controlling Spotify with just your voice on HomePod mini. No more clunky AirPlay setup. You simply ask Siri for your favorite song or podcast, and it starts playing instantly. HomePod mini would even display Spotify as a playback option, just like Alexa devices.

This wouldn't just benefit Spotify. Here's the win-win:

  • For Spotify: Gain a massive advantage by attracting users who prioritize voice control and a smooth experience. With native integration, Spotify becomes an equally attractive option to Apple Music on HomePod mini. This could lead to a significant user increase for Spotify.
  • For Users: Enjoy a simpler, more intuitive music experience. Forget the multi-step AirPlay process. Just speak your command, and Spotify on HomePod mini delivers. This eliminates frustration and enhances the overall streaming experience.

The current situation, where users switch to services like Apple Music for native HomePod mini support, is a missed opportunity for both Spotify and its users. With native integration, Spotify can offer the same level of seamless control as Apple Music, keeping users happy and potentially attracting new ones. It's a win-win for everyone involved.

I suspect Mr Ek and his team think they can get an even bigger advantage
for themselves by not engaging. We are collateral damage. For my part I
found Apple Music was great. I don't find YouTube as good but the bonus of
advert free videos more than makes up for it for me. YouTube Music keeps
getting dropped by the Apple Home App on my aging iPhone. But it is a
matter of less than a minute to re-instate it. YouTube search is not as
good as the other two but if needs be if there is something it can't find
on voice search with the HomePod then one can often find it in the YouTube
App and then 'hand over' to the HomePod.

What a disrespect for its us users. It’s such a simple implementation to make its service fully integrated. Apple will dominate the market of smart devices for years to come, and Spotify plays hard to get... for what reason??? What a shame.
