(Android) Screen enters sleep mode when viewing lyrics

We've been receiving reports that some devices are entering sleep mode within a few seconds when the Lyrics screen is open.

This seems to happen on the Android mobile app only.

When going to the lyrics on a song your phone screen should stay on at all times. Normally when you leave your phone unattended the screen dims and eventually turns off, but it would be much better if when viewing lyrics the screen stayed on constantly and didn't turn off. This was a feature before and was amazing when I wanted to sing songs in the shower or with friends, but now I must tap the screen every now and then to keep it on. No my has not updated, this I know for sure, so I know spotify has changed it. If not a permanent feature it should be toggle-able in the settings.

We haven't gotten similar reports to this one, so let's check how we can fix it. First up, if you haven't tried, we recommend performing a clean reinstall of the Spotify app by following these steps. No worries, you won't lose any saved content, but you might have to download your offline music again.

If that doesn't help, it's also worth checking if this happens with a different internet connection. You can check if it happens both with Wi-Fiand mobile data or try connecting to a different network. If you don't have any other available, try asking someone else to share their connection via mobile Hotspot. 

Lastly, if you can, try logging in to your account on a different mobile device and check if it also happens there. It can be a relative or friend's device.

I have the same problem but the worst Problem ist now even if I have the lyrics open my Display turns of after a few seconds. Can anyone Help?

Thanks for reaching out on the Community! Hope you don't mind us moving your post to a separate thread, as it sounds like you're experiencing a slightly different issue with the app.

While it's expected that you'll be redirected to the next song's overview after the previous one ends, it's possible that the behavior you're describing regarding the screen turning off is related to some device settings.

In this case, it's worth having a look through the screen settings of the device you're using. For example, on Android you can head over to Settings > Display > Screen Timeout. We can also recommend that you check the battery settings and make sure that Spotify is set as an exception if you're using any battery optimization option.

Shouldn't that do the trick, could you let us know what device (make/model) and operating system you're using? Do you have this issue on all devices that you use Spotify on, or just with a specific one?

Same thing is happening to me after last android update. Samsung S23 Ultra. I turned off all battery settings and lyrics still go away according to phone timeout settings. It didn't used to do that before the update.

Same issue for me. Its very annoying. You can create a mode on your phone that makes the phone stay on but it'll keep your phone unlocked while spotify is playing so its not a good idea. What changed in the update? Prior to this it was an unknown setting and was automatic if lyrics were displayed. It never had anything to do with phone settings so changing them now wont affect it at all. It is an automatic setting that used to exist and now does not since the update. Everyone has also been asking for an option to keep your screen active on lyrics and stay that way for the next songs.....still not. Spotify is by far the best music app, but these few small things are better with others and you have more options. Dumb stuff like this makes people want to use a different service. It should take a single day and one person to make those changes. Simple changes to the programming with only a couple of simple commands and done. So why do we still not have simple stuff we want but an Ai DJ no one asked for? I keep my lyrics up, always, and its been one reason I prefer spotify. Should be fixed as soon as you know about it.

Make phone stay on during live lyric. I dont know if you removed it or something but its not working

Same issue here. Screen keeps turning off while reading lyrics. It started to happen since last android update. Please, fix it asap. I'm using Samsung S24 Ultra and I'm a premium user.
