Android app unresponsive on a particular WiFi network

We've received reports from Android users (mainly Samsung and Google Pixel) experiencing issues where the Spotify app becomes unresponsive, freezes, or crashes when connected to certain WiFi networks. The issue doesn't occur while using mobile data.

Hey folks,

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify available.

If you're still having trouble, it's worth logging out and signing back in to your account to force a resync or performing a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any potentially corrupted cache.

Should you need assistance with anything else, you can post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks !

Hi all,

We’ve identified the cause of the issue affecting some Android users, and a fix will be included in an upcoming app release.

The issue appears to affect a small subset of Android users when the app connects to some Wi-Fi networks. We apologise for the inconvenience and will share another update here once the fix is live. In the meantime, we recommend switching to mobile data or try turning off Wi-Fi if you experience this issue.

Thanks for bearing with us while we get this resolved.

So what's the cause? And when does the fix get released?

I just joined the beta from the Google Play Store and updated to (beta) version 9.0.92.1259. I can confirm this issue is resolved in this beta version. If you're hanging on the edge of your seat, try joining the beta from the button on the app listing in the Play Store and update to the beta. Otherwise, it appears the prod release should be coming soon™

Any update to the app update release?

I confirm: The BETA in the playstore solves the issue!

This error has become all but unbearable!   I am about to be forced to switch to a different provider since we cannot use casting and even crash if the device is just at home on our primary wifi!

I can also confirm the beta fixes the issue! Thank you Spotify development team for debugging, isolating the issues, and providing a fix so quickly. I appreciate your efforts.

I also confirm that beta version solves everything. Might be just me but the app seems even more responsive than before 🤔

Beta works! And it's not just in your head, the app is more responsive, and I'm able to cast to my devices/speaker groups much quicker than before.

Beta has seen a big improvement in how the app navigates and reacts, but casting is a mixed bag. Fine for a single device but with each ever increasing number of devices of groups, it's still a lengthy connection wait. 1 device a few seconds, 3 devices takes over a minute.
