Android app unresponsive on a particular WiFi network

We've received reports from Android users (mainly Samsung and Google Pixel) experiencing issues where the Spotify app becomes unresponsive, freezes, or crashes when connected to certain WiFi networks. The issue doesn't occur while using mobile data.

Hey folks,

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify available.

If you're still having trouble, it's worth logging out and signing back in to your account to force a resync or performing a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any potentially corrupted cache.

Should you need assistance with anything else, you can post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks !

You have an interesting understanding of what it means for something to be fixed.

Yes, it has improved and the stutters at the beginning are not that bad anymore, but I seriously doubt that the current situation, still showing visible stutters, can be described as fixed. It is still heavily struggling when you access the app again, and the related issues with cutting off the active stream in the same process have not been addressed or improved at all. Spotify still loses synchronization with active casts as regularly as before.

I am sure the 10 percent price increase that Spotify is currently rolling out, which they claim is needed for further development and support of the app, will quickly resolve this ongoing issue since 2020. At least this is how I understood the email and where the money will flow to, since Spotify is not mentioning anything about increasing the payout for the artists.

Update 22 Nov. Since my last post the situation has regressed where casting to any Chromecast device, whether singularly or as a combination, results in connection failure. Instant connection to an Echo or Sonos device. I'm fed up with any advice of resetting, clearing cache, uninstalling, updating, sacrificing my eldest child and I'm sure I'm not alone as someone with a Samsung mobile on Android 16 that can no longer depend on Spotify to provide a service that Audible, TuneIn and BBC Sounds can do without problems. Update 6 December. No improvement. Casting fails to any Chromecast device.
