Android app unresponsive on a particular WiFi network

We've received reports from Android users (mainly Samsung and Google Pixel) experiencing issues where the Spotify app becomes unresponsive, freezes, or crashes when connected to certain WiFi networks. The issue doesn't occur while using mobile data.

Hey folks,

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone - just make sure you're running the latest version of Spotify available.

If you're still having trouble, it's worth logging out and signing back in to your account to force a resync or performing a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any potentially corrupted cache.

Should you need assistance with anything else, you can post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks !

Similar issues for me. Pixel 8 Pro with latest system update and latest Spotify update.  I suppose it's only happening on my home Wi-Fi.

Problems seem to have started when LOSSLESS became available.

Crashing app. Slow UI response. Connecting to my Google speakers is slow, and connecting to groups of speakers is worse.

General app crashing seems to have improved last night after I turned off lossless option on WiFi.

I'm not going to uninstall the app and reinstall because I've got too many downloaded playlists and I don't want to have to re-download all of that.

The same issue is happening for me too. My S24 is on One UI 8, and the entire OS seems to freeze when Spotify is running in the background or open. Gestures suddenly don't work, but apps like TikTok still continue playing videos. I just can't swipe out of apps, and the entire home screen seems to not be working properly.

This issue is impacting me, on more than one device, so adding my information.

  • Device 1: Pixel 8 Pro
    • Android 16 BP3A.251005.004.B1
    • Spotify Version: 9.0.90.1229

  • Device 2: Pixel Tablet
    • Android 16, BP3A.251005.004.A2
    • Spotify Version: 9.0.86.1358

Wifi is Nest Wifi Pro, all points running 3.76.479819. Account is Spotify premium, and I have audio quality set to lossless.

Spotify stopped working today on my Samsung Tab S.

App loads, but will not play music, bring up a play list, or select a song.  Have tried updating app.  Has been working solidly for over 10 years until today.

It happens also on cellular. Totally useless currently.

@Yordan @For me It crashes only on Android 16 and only if there are too many (approx more than 8  ) google devices. So I unplugged a few google cast devices to bring the numbers down to 8 and now it doesn't crash anymore. Did through testing using multiple devices including Samsung and Google cellphone, tablets, Apple iPads and different google cast devices including old and new generation Chromecast, speakers, displays all at two different with different network. Hope this info might help reproduce the bug and resolution.

Happening to 2 Samsung phones S23 and S24 right after the latest OS update.

The app freezing not only from Samsung and Pixel. I am Xiaomi user. The Spotify connect doesn't play and skipping the tracks without playing them.
