App not working on Volvo and Polestar cars

We've gotten reports that some Volvo and Polestars car users are experiencing issues with the Spotify app after an update.

Some mention that Google Voice Assistant control for Spotify no longer works, or the app UI has changed and it is no longer recognized by the car as a safe app for use while driving.

Hey folks,

Great news - everything should be running just fine now 🙂

Make sure to uninstall the app from each car user profile > restart the car system > reinstall the app (should you still experience issues).

Cheers!

@roodik

Not necessarily a permanent fix (yet to test) but logging out of my phone's Spotify app appears to have enabled me to sign in on the car's Spotify app - certainly it's working, uncertain of the cause!  Have yet to log in to phone's Spotify app to see if that works and/or disconnects the car.

I uninstalled Spotify and now I don't see it in new apps. Is there a way to get it to reappear? Volvo s90, 2020.

-- Edit --

I logged out of the Spotify mobile app and indeed Spotify appeared in the car for installation. Tomorrow I will try to install Spotify in the car and on the phone I will be logged out the whole time. I will log in in the car first... We will see if it works. I will let you know.

Solution for cars like mine, i.e., without Android.

1. Uninstall the app in the car.
2. Log out of Spotify on all mobile devices (phone, tablet).
3. The app will reappear in the car. Install it.
4. Do not log in to the Spotify app in the car using a code! Log in using your email and password.
5. Taa-daa! It works! 🙂
6. Now you can log back into your mobile apps.

Spotify constantly fails to coordinate with our phones in our 2024 Volvo XC90. If I were buying another Volvo, I would simply plan on Spotify failing to work or plan to spend considerable free time and attention babysitting software.
