Connecting to the car automatically plays Liked Songs playlist, with or without Car Thing

Hey folks,

We've received reports that connecting to the car automatically plays Liked Songs playlist, with or without Car Thing.

This is being investigated.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

The main issue in this thread (Liked Songs automatically playing when connected to the car) should be resolved by now.

If anyone's still experiencing this issue and your app is up to date, we've moved @parksca5's most recent comment to this thread, in which we encourage everyone to post their issue if it's specific to the Liked Songs playlist. We can then forward your reports to the right teams.

If you have a similar issue but it's not specific to your Liked Songs anymore, please make sure to post a new thread in the relevant help board here.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Some fixes were put in place earlier this year, and it did resolve the issue for many users.

However we are aware of issues still being experienced with resumption of playback for some users.

If this is the case for you, please:

  • Tell us what you expected to happen vs what actually happened
  • Whether you use iOS or Android
  • The date/time this issue occurred
  • Write in the post that you consent for us to look up your account to check the logs

We are actively investigating the reports that you provide - but we must have all the details as noted here.

Thanks for your patience.

My Car Thing is always plugged in. I connect my phone to the Car Thing with an Aux cord. It seems to happen right when the Car Thing connects to my phone when I turn my car on. The phone isn’t connecting to anything else while all this happens.

Same issue, but I don’t have a car thing I’m just using regular Bluetooth. Drives me CRAZY. I’m on the latest iOS, iPhone 15, latest app update.

I've been having this issue for the past few weeks. I do not own a Car Thing (I don't even know what that is). Whenever my phone connects to Bluetooth in my car, instead of resuming the last played song, it starts playing a song from my Liked list. The deck in my car is custom/aftermarket and does not use Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto. From this information, I gather the issue is with the Spotify app itself, and has nothing to do with CarThing.

I agree, it looks to be more of a connecting to Bluetooth issue than CarThing

I tried unplugging my car thing for the past few days because this issue was so annoying.  Upon doing this, my spotify typically did not start playing anything automatically when connecting to the car bluetooth (although it has previously *always* started playing when the car thing was in use).  However, on two occasions it did start playing automatically , and I can confirm that it did start at the beginning of the Liked Songs playlist still.  So based on my experience I would also suggest it is not directly related to the car thing.

I am having this issue also, but just when I connect to Bluetooth anywhere without using Car Thing. App version 8.8.90

Happens to me as well for weeks. I’m on an iPhone 13 but with updated iOS and app. I am Bluetooth connected to the car thing, but use an aux to connect to my car sound. It is super frustrating and happens nonstop. I hope a solution is found.

This is happening to me as well even when I unplugged the car thing. I actually turned off the setting that defaults to automobile version of Spotify and it still does it. Very frustrating.

I am having the same issue though I do NOT have “car thing” turned on in my settings.

Having the same issue, my current solution is i've deleted everything from my "liked songs" playlist, it still defaults to playing that playlist as soon as i start my car, but plays silence. Its a stupid work around, but slightly less irritating
