Issue with storage option switching from SD Card to internal

My Question or Issue

This happened with my last phone, Samsung S7 running Oreo (or whatever the most recent OS is) but it was fixed when I got the Moto X4. I like to keep a lot of songs downloaded offline because my service is terrible and I also spend a lot of time in the mountains. Before I I update my phone to the new Android Pie OS there was no problems. Now everytime I reset my phone I think spotify cannot see my SD card at first and tries to download all the music to its internal storage and I have to go back in and tell it to store it in the SD card. That is extremely annyoing but not the end of the world. What is really frustrating is that I think all of the downloaded songs are still on the SD card and just keep redownloading and taking up space. Eventually this will cause me to reformat the card which will be a major pain for me since I store a large amount of photos on there also. Is anyone else have this problem? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the application so any other suggestions or help?

Why would you set it to; use data for downloads, give it permission to
access background data, and why would you set it to automatically download?

Hi,

The only setting that caused this is download over cellular being switched
on because I am happy to download an album or two over the data network
when I want. What i dont expect is for spotify to switch from SD to
internal on it's own, which it seems to do when the app updates. When this
happens the app will see cached data that x amount of songs are downloaded
but will see empty storage so immediately starts downloading the library
over the first available network. As I'm on holiday with no wifi but with
free roaming it's used my data connection. I guess I will just have to live
with the inconvenience of switching cell downloads on and off in the app
setting everytime I want to add to my library at work or out of wifi range.

Hope that's clear.

A similar scenario happened to me as well. I thought my downloads were available on the SD card and I had cell data on for occasional use. After listening to a long playlist that I thought was downloaded, I discovered it had been streaming the whole time and it chewed through almost half my data plan on the first day of the bill period.

What's doubly annoying is that the storage settings will show that yr songs
are still on the sd card. In my case 45Gb used but switching back from
internal to sd wiped this replacing it with the paltry 6Gb it had
downloaded before maxing out my data. 😞

Hold down on the spotify icon for a few seconds, when you release the hold
a window will appear. In the corner of the window is a little icon a circle
with an 'i' inside of it click on it and app info will appear. One line
will be 'data usage', click on this. Under this heading there should be the
setting 'background data' disabling this setting will mean spotify can only
access data when you have opened it yourself and it remains under the
window tab. Also I would recommend shutting auto update, auto sync off
aswell... Cheers

Hi i dont have background data permissions or any permissions on, part of
the problem was that I WAS running the app. Had got off the plane into a
hire car, blutoothed the audio and had a playlist playing. Noticed an
update downloading as I did this but thought no more of it. Drove for hour
and a half got to the villa late at night and just chucked phone in a
chair. When I got up I discovered that storage had switched to internal,
and I'm still not sure if it was the playlist or just general library but
my data had run out after approx 7Gb download. The annoying thing is if I
switch storage manually the app will copy from one location to the other.
The app could also see 45Gb on the SD card in use by spotify but when I
switched back it overwrote this with the 6.8Gb internal. Have switched off
auto updates but this bug needs squashing.

A little UX therapy for those experiencing this bug...

Instead of moving the app to the SD card, which makes everything sucktacular, just make sure to wait at least 30s after reboot to unlock your phone.

This has so far been working for me in the interim until Spotify devs can fix this bug.

Happy weekend, and happy listening...

I have had the same problem on a Sony Xperia running Android 9. I urge Spotify to provide a fix to this annoying time and data consumming bug.

Sorry, but is this some kind of out of Season April Fools joke? 6 MONTHS for an Answer from an Moderator?
I know it's not your fault @Guido , but six months are pretty long to be honest
There are People paying for the Premium subscription and basically can't use it because of this bug, and they are not even getting a refund or something like this?
