Issue with storage option switching from SD Card to internal

My Question or Issue

This happened with my last phone, Samsung S7 running Oreo (or whatever the most recent OS is) but it was fixed when I got the Moto X4. I like to keep a lot of songs downloaded offline because my service is terrible and I also spend a lot of time in the mountains. Before I I update my phone to the new Android Pie OS there was no problems. Now everytime I reset my phone I think spotify cannot see my SD card at first and tries to download all the music to its internal storage and I have to go back in and tell it to store it in the SD card. That is extremely annyoing but not the end of the world. What is really frustrating is that I think all of the downloaded songs are still on the SD card and just keep redownloading and taking up space. Eventually this will cause me to reformat the card which will be a major pain for me since I store a large amount of photos on there also. Is anyone else have this problem? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the application so any other suggestions or help?

Hey there.

We just wanted to let you know that we've looked into this with the right folks now.

We are currently trying to resolve the issue. We don't have a timeframe for a fix, but we're really glad you let us know about this. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Keep your app up-to-date and have a nice day 🙂

Interesting... Is in Tidal the Library a NORMAL THING, like it used to be in Spotify until 2 months ago, before the whole app became unusable?

I am looking for an alternative, so Tidal looks super good.

This has NOT been fixed yet.

I have a Samsung Note 8, and , after the device restart,  all downloads are moved from the external card to the internal storage.

Very annoying.

Sadly, all Spotify support offers is that they are aware of the issue and are working on it.

But no fix as yet.

None of the posted fixes (deleting, reinstalling etc.) make any difference.

Hi there - is there a fix for this yet?

Hi,
The only work-arround we found for the moment is to move Spotify app to sd card at each update… you can do it by enabling force app move to sd card in developers menu.

This issue is noting moving Spotify after the occasional update, rather having to move Spotify from internal storage to external storage EACH AND EVERY RESTART OF THE DEVICE!
That's annoying!
Fix the programming, for example by requiring Spotifiy to wait arfter restart until the SD card is available rather than just moving its content to the internal storage EACH AND EVERY RESTART of the device.
This cannot be fixed merely by misunderstanding what the issue is!

This is still not resolved with no real updates I  10 monthes

Is issue is service breaking for me and i will have to swich to a different service if not resolved.

Spotify downloaded songs redownload on to internal storage after ever restart. I believe this is due to a delay in mounting the sd card on the device. This issue has been going on for years judging by this forum with out ever having a satisfactory answer or solution by spotify. Seriously fix this issue it is service breaking. I really like spotify but I will have cancel my subscription and go somewhere else as this does not work for me.

Hey there @Clayharding,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Just to confirm, have you tried the following steps:

  1. Enable permission for storage option for Spotify. This can be accessed by going to Settings>Apps>Spotify>Permissions>Storage.
  2. Do a clean reinstall as explained here.

We'll be keeping an eye out for your replies!

Clayharding

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately a clean Install does not seem to solve the problem I have tried the suggested steps several times. The only thing  that seems to work at all is enabling developer options and forcing the app to Install on the sd card. This prevents spotify from starting before the sd is mounted. However this solution is in no way ideal as now spotify doesnt behave properly with google assistant or lock screen controls.

Hey @Clayharding,

Thanks for getting back to us and for trying out those steps.

This is likely related to an ongoing issue which we're stil looking into, but which we don't currently have a timeline for a fix for.

Make sure to head over here - we'll keep you posted on any updates on our end.

Thanks!
