[Mobile] Downloaded playlists do not load without an internet connection

Hey folks!

We’ve received multiple reports that Android and iOS users are unable to play downloaded content while using offline mode. You might get stuck on a loading screen or get an error message saying "Something went wrong. Try again?".
This is being looked into.

Hey folks!

Looks like this issue is resolved for everyone so we're marking this OI as Fixed.
For any new questions please open a new thread in the Help Boards.
Cheers!

Hey folks!

To anyone who is still experiencing this issue with Android devices or Apple iPhones - as it is resolved for most folks, we'd like to see the error in action in order to better understand it 🙂
If it's possible for you, we'd like to ask you to send us a video recording of what is happening on your ends.

In case the video is too large for the forum, you can instead upload it to Google Drive/ YouTube etc. and send us a link to it!
Just make sure the access is set to public/ anyone with the link.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Note: This Ongoing issue is not regarding Apple watches. For these, follow the troubleshooting steps from this article. If that doesn't help you can open a new thread in the iOS boards and describe your issue. Cheers!

Hey @Vasil

Could you tell us approximately how much longer this will take?

Some have been waiting for over a year now and all we get is always "we're looking into it currently". Is this "looking into" taking weeks, months, years? Are you really looking into this at all? Is there any progress? After all we deserve to know as paying customers...

I have tried just about everything. It seems like it won't load albums that haven't been played in a while. Clearing the cache seems to make it worse.

Affects all downloaded albums and playlists

I have cleared all storage, cache, data and uninstalled Spotify. Rebooted phone and clean installed the latest version.

Offline mode works the first time I try, then only works the next time I start Spotify for the previously playing playlist or album. When I attempt to select another playlist or album, offline mode fails on all subsequent attempts, showing a spinning green 'loading' wheel, until I disable offline mode and allow all to update once again. Again offline mode works for about one day, then the issue occurs again and continues to repeat.

@swwoodland your experience is similar to mine. I have my phone set to allow Spotify to only use Wi-Fi (on my Samsung S22+, under "Allowed networks for apps", I have Spotify set to Wi-Fi only). However, I routinely get the spinning green circle when trying to play downloaded music when not on Wi-Fi. Sometimes, but not always, either (1) toggling airplane mode on/off or (2) temporarily changing the "Allowed networks for apps" to Wi-Fi or mobile data, will get Spotify to start playing downloaded music. Obviously neither of these are acceptable.

Personal anecdote: I went on a very long road trip last summer and downloaded a ton of albums and podcasts in the Spotify app in advance of this trip. I never questioned that I'd be able to play the downloaded content, and I never had an issue. This summer, I have a similar road trip planned, and I can't imagine relying on Spotify in the same way.

Offline, I cannot play downloaded podcasts, audiobooks or music (playlists or albums). This has been going on for a few weeks. When online, they appear to be downloaded (green download icon is visible). Once offline, however, the download icon appears to be cycling/loading. The files aren't downloaded and am unable to play anything.

Downloaded songs are not available in offline mode. Trying to access the downloaded albums just gives me an extended loading period before an error. I work in an environment where I don't have consistent access to wireless data and not being able to play any of my library is incredibly frustrating, especially considering I went out of my way to download the albums beforehand.

Hey have this issue as well. After 24 hours of being in offline mode i will seemingly randomly be unable to access downloaded playlists either behind a loading screen or an icon that looks like it is trying to redownload that content. I am using a samsung galaxy s23, version S911USQS3CXD7 spotify version 8.9.40.509.

This has been a persistent issue for at least 6 months if not more. I cannot access most albums that I’ve downloaded when offline. I’m always met with an error message telling me I need to go online. Even with a clean install I’m unable to fix this on my end. This is one of the main features I pay for Spotify Premium to use.  This issue should be higher priority since paying customers are unable to use this feature as advertised.
