Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

  • Gapless playback - found in Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - found in Settings > Audio Quality

Hey everyone,

In case you're experiencing this issue, make sure to give it a like and provide the following info:

  • The day, time and time zone this has occurred on
  • Your device's OS version
  • The version of Spotify you're running
  • Does the app switch to the next song or is it stuck on the current one (with the timer still counting)?
  • Whether this occurs when playing from the mobile device directly or when connected to another device (Bluetooth, headphones, etc.)

If possible, feel free to include a video showing how things look from your end.

As always, rest assured we'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any new information to share, so Subscribe to the thread to stay tuned!

I tested something today.

Removed the current version of Spotify and downloaded an apk of an older version (8.8.96, December 15th 2023!). The older version works flawlessly, doesn't mute songs after skipping to the next song, faster at skipping to the next song.

This proves that somewhere between that version and current versions, something has changed in the code of the app.

Next I will run an apk comparison of both versions and see what differences are shown. Literally doing the job of a Spotify programmer for them. It's a joke.

If you want a stable version of Spotify back, I suggest you install an older version.

this has started on my android app. I have tried reinstalling the app however this is still happening. help?

hello. 1 user suggested to download an earlier version of the app. it
seemed to work for them.

Spotify only tells you about how to comment or search up your issues as pertained by keywords, its about control I guess. They don't encourage or explain how to post your own thread & on top of that spotifys playback is not reliable & crashes leading me to have to reload the webpage or clear cache on every single platform & device I have ever used which now I'm starting to think their becoming a music company targeted to specific audiences who may pay for this service then those who are still accessably able to use it without a premium option in which if thats not an excuse for why this issue is occuring then I guess Spotify just sucks officially now. I am just expressing my opinion

understandable. entirely understandable.
