Playback issues: Songs going silent on Android app

We've received reports from Android users that the progress bar of a song keeps moving but there's no sound coming out. When the app is restarted, the progress bar goes back to the point where the song went silent.

Some users noticed that the issue doesn't occur when the features below are toggled off:

  • Gapless playback - found in Settings > Playback
  • Equalizer - found in Settings > Audio Quality

Hey everyone,

In case you're experiencing this issue, make sure to give it a like and provide the following info:

  • The day, time and time zone this has occurred on
  • Your device's OS version
  • The version of Spotify you're running
  • Does the app switch to the next song or is it stuck on the current one (with the timer still counting)?
  • Whether this occurs when playing from the mobile device directly or when connected to another device (Bluetooth, headphones, etc.)

If possible, feel free to include a video showing how things look from your end.

As always, rest assured we'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any new information to share, so Subscribe to the thread to stay tuned!

At first, I thought it was my device that has an issue but after checking, every app's sound/volume is fine except Spotify. I've tried force stopping it, clear cache, restart device, delete and install, and non of these worked. I've already checked the permissions that my device allows this app to do and checked all of the articles. And the problem is still the same. Kindly fix it asap

I haven't read every single comment but the moment this started happening to me was when I updated my firmware on my phone.

I have a Xiaomi Poco F4.

Xiaomi released their Hyper OS firmware update (OS was previously MIUI 14) and it was at that update the issue started happening.

My current Android version is: 14 UKQ1.231207.002 | Android security update:
2024-09-01

I can't believe Spotify has not sorted the issue. I'm a family plan paying member and this issue goes way back. I've found threads back in 2021 on Reddit where users have had this exact issue.

I've tried all the solutions to no avail.

I can either wait if out and hope for a fix, downgrade back to MIUI version 14 which is pain in the 'you know what' or just move away from Spotify completely to something like YouTube Premium.

Always been a lover of Spotify but they're absolutely taking the **bleep** now.

I just wrote a post and it seems the mods or whoever didn't like my opinions on Spotify and have deleted it.

Sort your act out Spotify!

This issue has been ongoing for MONTHS.

My problem

When playing music, the first song is heard but the next one is not (both in the application and in the background), that is, I can only listen to one song and not another, but I have noticed that the song that has no sound I have to touch the sound bar so that it can be heard again. Also, if I don't touch the playback bar of the song that doesn't make sound, the songs continue without playing sound until I press the playback bar.

I deleted the application data, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, with other headphones it's the same, I even restarted my phone but it's still the same.

yes. i have done the same.
Bij het luisteren van muziek, wordt de laaste tijd het steeds even kort onderbroken...het hapert...stottert.....heel vervelend...hoop op een oplossing. Bij voorbaat dank

Absolutely ridiculous that after almost two years of having this issue ongoing that it's still not resolved, I have had to move to other paid subscriptions such as youtube to stop myself from launching the phone across the room this literally happens to me dozens of times a day when I use the app. Absolute joke. Have in the past spoken to half a dozen advisors they're all useless and tell you to follow the same circular troubleshooting methods. Had advisors suggest that it's a problem specifically with my phone. Clearly the problem is on the software as no other media streaming services have this very specific, repetitive and annoying problem. The only reason I haven't cancelled is that other family members use my plan, but I pay for a family plan and can't even use the basic app it's disgusting customer service/satisfaction.

Just out of curiosity, The other family members, how many?  Are they experiencing the same issues? Are they in nearby locations? What ISP are you using? What phone are you using. It's impossible to find the problem without a place to start looking. Assuming there is not something in your phone interrupting/blocking the signal. It's very annoying to have unsolved problems, Spot may have issues with the number of family users (IP addresses)? Quitting Spot may be your only answer.

We seldom hear from anyone that finds a cure. We might assume it's a Spot issue (it may be) and not look farther. Your family members would have the same problem. Or a different device, device settings, ISP, location, wireless provider. Check it out.
