Smart Shuffle keeps turning itself on

Hey folks!

Some of you have reported that Smart Shuffle is automatically turning itself on again after being switched off. This is now being looked into.

Note: The Smart Shuffle feature works on a playlist-by-playlist basis. If you turn it off on one playlist, it doesn't mean that it is turned off for all playlists.

We'll keep you posted 🙂

Im having this issue still, despite the support chat telling me to log out and back in. Originally it was changing it after every song, even if shuffle in general is off. Now its changing it MID SONG.

Im using the android app on my phone. Its happening WHILE IM DRIVING which as you can imagine is a distracting hazard. Why pay for premium if its doing this?

Why cant we opt out of smart shuffle all together?? I will not use it. Give me a user setting to make it impossible to turn on. Please stop forcing it on me.

OK, so I don't know why, but on the PC side, I tried to go through and turn the shuffle OFF, I hit the smart shuffle and then it just wouldn't turn off the smart shuffle. I don't like smart shuffle and honestly believe that it's a complete waste of programming. I had to go to the app and start my music there (which changed it from my PC to my phone) and I was able to shut down the smart shuffle there. So my issue is currently on my PC side and not my Android phone (I have Windows 10, at least till October, and for my phone I have the Samsung S24 Ultra). I know that this is going to take a bit to fix, but as I said, I don't like smart shuffle and believe that it's a complete waste of programming.

Hey folks,

Just a heads-up that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps from the app settings!

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Playback.
  4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

Stay tuned for updates in regard to the other platforms 🙂

I am getting this issue and it is very very annoying.

When I connect BT to a Sonos device, it autoenables "Smart Shuffle" for all playlists. When I connect "This/Current Device" (a Mac) it will allow me to disable it for some playlists, though it does not visually reflect the change to the app UI until I navigate away and back.

When connected via BT on Mac to Sonos, it does not work ever.

When on my phone and BT to Sonos, Smart Shuffle will continue to re-enable itself when I disable it.

Hello if this issue is still bothering you as of 5/9/2025 I have fixed it on windows 10 OS by going into app settings (apps and features) typing Spotify clicking on it and going into advanced options and repairing the app (spotify) via the button that says repair.

Please note that I have not tried this on Windows 11 nor have I tried uninstalling or clearing the data, but to my knowledge there is no harm in doing it on Windows 11.

I have not touched the data but I am assuming it logs you out similarly to the Xbox app fix on windows.

Make it so that shuffle mode doesn't turn on and off for no reason and just remove smart shuffle entirely because it's terrible

TheMacDaddy

That's a good thing.

Now, fix the actual shuffle, to you know, randomly shuffle.

Please revert the app from the most recent update to an earlier version.

First, there is now that stupid “Create” button in the place where “Your library” should be. This is completely unusable.

Second, shuffle setting now automatically shifts to the smart shuffle every time I play a new playlist. This issue was already present a couple of years ago, which was then resolved, and now it’s back.

It seems Spotify wants to force us to use their AI features like create, smart shuffle, etc. But the app is very user-unfriendly now. All the time I’ve been using the app, I’ve never had such a huge desire to switch to Apple Music. If this doesn’t get fixed, I will.

I am also unable to disable it; Smart Shuffle recommendations -- indeed, even exiting and restarting the application does not stop the shuffling for any lists.   This applies to the current active release for MacOS on MacOS Sequoia.

I usually play music on my Sonos speakers and when I have it on there, I can't turn off Smart Shuffle however once I start playing it on my phone or computer, it lets me turn off Smart Shuffle
