[Desktop] Spotify won't resume after pause with bluetooth headphones

I'm unable to resume after i pause the music for a few minutes with my headphones over bluetooth.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app and all devices fully up-to-date.

Thanks!

I've been a premium Spotify user for years. Finally cancelled and switched to Apple Music. It is completely unacceptable to me that Spotify has ignored this issue for so long.

Currently experiencing this issue regularly using Sony WH-1000XM3 Bluetooth headphones (using the Spotify macOS desktop application). Usual solve is to disconnect and reconnect the headphones.

OS: macOS Catalina 10.15.4

Spotify installed from the macOS app store.

Same problem on macbook. "Error: cant play the current song" after resume play after pause.

- Macbook Pro 15" 2017, MacOS 10.14.6

- AirPods Pro and Bose QC35II

- 1.1.41.634.gc2c73ca7

- Premium

- Hardware acceleration is off (and the same problem when I try on it)

This is a gamebreaker Spotify...

I've enjoyed your product for four years. It has a great interface, and the brand quirks are endearing—

But you'll bleed customers to a service that doesn't have friction to using the platform in a common fashion.

I've been thinking about starting fresh with my musical garden and building some new playlists recently.

Hope your technical staff get directed to this before I come around to the iTunes aesthetic!

I have had this problem off and on for several years.  In the past I have been able to solve it using various fixes found in this forum, including turning off Hardware Acceleration, turning on Crossfade setting the time to zero, several variations on the reinstall theme, and others.

I get the "Can't play the current song" after disconnecting my desktop app from the bluetooth receiver in my bathroom.  The hardware and software info is as follows:

Windows 10 Home Version 2004 Build 19041.508

Ryzen 7 1700x 8-core 3.4 GHz, 16 GB RAM
Spotify 1.1.42.622.gbd112320

Add my name to the list of people growing increasingly frustrated by Spotify's failure to fix this...

Update 11/3/2020:  When I posted this, I foolishly expected that a fix would soon be forthcoming, and checked "Email me when someone replies" so that I would quickly be notified of that fix.

As it turns out, I was merely signing up for an endless flow of emails from Spotify users growing increasingly agitated, as I have, regarding Spotify's failure to address this.  I sympathize with and share those grievances, but no longer want the grievance-spam.

I popped in to edit the comment by merely unchecking the box, but the spam continues to flow, so I am hoping that actually editing the text of my comments before unchecking the box will do the trick.  Pray for me.

Update to the previous update, approximately thirty seconds later:  Nope.  The box appears to have re-checked itself.  I am doomed to receive grievance spam for all Eternity.

Hey there. I used to have this issue, specifically where I would have to restart Spotify after connecting bluetooth and after pausing to go listen to something else, but it's gotten more disruptive: now I get a message at the top saying "Can't play the current song" after every two songs that plays.

Technical details:

  • Spotify version: 1.1.43.700.g20acee0f
  • Mac OS version: Catalina 10.15.4 (19E287)
  • Device specs:
    • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
    • Processor: 2.7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
    • Memory: 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    • Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 MB

To recreate:

  1. With bluetooth connected, open Spotify desktop app for Mac, OR connect bluetooth while Spotify app is already open.
  2. Play FULL song (don't manually skip halfway through, or near end).
  3. Let another FULL song play (don't skip through).
  4. Let the next song play.
  5. [next song plays ~7s with sound]
  6. [song stops playing with sound]
  7. [banner comes up at the top saying "Can't play the current song"]
  8. [progress bar continues as though the song is still playing but there's no sound]
  9. [progress bar stops once song with no sound has "ended" and the next song is NOT started]

Notes:

  • Other system sounds work perfectly fine once Spotify has stopped.
  • I don't know if it's related but I have always been looking at a different window when this has happened.
  • I do not have "hardware acceleration" on, but turning it on/off doesn't make a difference.

I contacted Spotify support about this and though they failed to solve the problem, they said they passed the information onto the developers. I urge everyone else to do the same.

edit: spamming is probably bad

Do you have their mail or a link? I would happily spam them regarding this
issue. 😂
