[Desktop] Spotify won't resume after pause with bluetooth headphones

I'm unable to resume after i pause the music for a few minutes with my headphones over bluetooth.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for reporting this issue to us.

We just wanted to let you know that the right folks are looking into this.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Spotify app and all devices fully up-to-date.

Thanks!

That's really annoying.

So found a work around which is still**bleep**. Turn OFF Bluetooth or turn off headphones then then back on and music will continue.

As another user posted above - can't hurt to remind the team @ https://twitter.com/SpotifyCares of this unresolved issue that by my guess must affect 1000s (if not 100,000s) of users every single day

I've been having this issue for at least a year as well. I am using Bose QuietComfort 35 Bluetooth headphones. It seems to happen whenever I pause Spotify in order to listen to a video (namely YouTube) in my web browser, which is Chrome.

I will return from the video, press play in Spotify and then after a brief delay a blue alert bar shows at the top of the screen reading "Can't play the current song". Always requires a restart of Spotify to start listening to music again.

Hope you can fix! Thanks.

Good suggestion @tobquilanorres (and the earlier poster who suggested this!) thank you - I have been swapping direct messages back and forth with Spotify on Twitter over these past several days about this. They're being helpful but still no fix yet...

It's happening for me on a Macbook Air, running Mojave, using an Anker Soundcore bluetooth speaker.

Btw a slightly quicker/less annoying fix than quitting & restarting Spotify, I've found, is disconnecting and reconnecting bluetooth. But it's still very annoying, and as others say, crazy that this is still an issue when Spotify said it was working on a fix in 2017..?!

Been having this problem for over a year (MacOS Mojave, Sony XM3s).

Had a Tidal account for a while and used it on the Mac so forgot about this issue. Just cancelled Tidal and resumed listening via Spotify. Couldn't believe it was still happening.

Then I found this thread and was staggered to see it's been going on for THREE YEARS.

Spotify, this is terrible. I've been a member since 2010. That's around £1,200 in subscription fees I've paid you. How many countless others must be in the same boat?? Listening to music with wireless headphones on a Mac is, in case you hadn't noticed, something that quite a lot of people do these days.

Please fix this soon or I will have to cancel and move over to Tidal.

Update from My previous comment. Is there any indication that Spotify developers looks at these kind of issues? It seems this is a "send-it-to-the-bottom-of-the-stack" kind of issue, given the issues age and status.

Anyway, I'm on these specs right now:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
macOS Catalina Version 10.15.6 (19G2021)

Spotify version 1.1.40.508.gd5bc2931

As far as I can tell, this issue still occurs with my previous BT 4.0 Jabra headphones, but they recently stopped working. I bought new headphones, this time a Sony model with BT 5.0. I have not had playback issues that required restarting Spotify since I've had my new headphones.

I hope this information is helpful.

Guys, according to Rolling Stone, we are not seeing a solution to this problem anytime soon.

"Spotify’s expenditure on Research & Development (mainly engineer staff costs) reduced dramatically in Q3 as a percentage of total revenue. It fell to 7.9% in Q3 2019, versus 10.0% in the same period of the prior year."
