Users on Android devices can't play content in Offline mode

We've received reports from Android users mentioning issues with Offline mode. When the device is set in Airplane mode or internet access is disabled, the app gets stuck on a black screen until a “You’re currently offline” error is displayed.

Hi there,

Our tech folks are currently looking into this. If you're experiencing this issue, make sure to add your vote and share the following details:

  • your device's make, model and OS version
  • the version of Spotify you're running
  • whether you're seeing
    -- a black screen;
-- or an error message saying you're offline
  • timestamp of when you last experienced the issue including your time zone

A short screen recording which captures the exact behavior in action would also be greatly appreciated.

We'll keep everyone posted here as soon as we have any updates on the matter, so subscribe to the thread from the three dots menu at the top to stay tuned.

Cheers 🤘

Lol.

After 4 long days of Crying & Screaming, bit the bullet & contacted support, after having issues w/ them in the past.

It took a bit of ranting at first, but finally was able to get to someone who understood that I do understand that this is a Spotify issue, exclusively. They kindly instructed Me to come vote on this, after being so kind to Me lol.

I am here to say that - No. It's not just on mobile. It's on Desktop. & I'm really only encountering this issue bcuz I'm too poor for consistent internet on My desktop lololol

Can't wait for an update to fix this nonsense.

That is a downgrade of functions. Its getting not smarter if you have to go to settings all the time just to listen to your dowwnloaded playlists and go into settings to listen to new releases and go into settings to listen to your pods offline where no one can destiurb you, and go into settings to download new pods and songs. Please just fix the app to functuon like it did before. 🙂 Going into settings to change functions that never needed changing before is a downgrade of the app.

I recently reinstalled Spotify after changing my device, but now whenever I'm in airplane mode or offline, the app doesn't open—it just shows a black screen.

I've had this happen several times in the past three months May, June & July 2025.

Never had this problem before. So I'd updated. Have uninstalled/Reinstalled. Cleared data/cache etc.. Last weekend I finally took screenshots and screen video. @Spotify reach out if you'd like the vids. If this keeps up, I'll go back to storing my own music and won't need Spotify.

I'm having this issue and need spotify for work offline for my job. I've tried all the fixes and in airplane mode after no reception for a day spotify goes to the blank black screen. This is so frustrating and would love a fix.

Same issue, started 3-5 weeks ago, mine goes to a black screen (eg app does not launch)

This occurs when my pixel 3 is out of service or is in airplane mode, offline access is on, offline mode is not, strangely it worked recently when I simply turned on wifi (not that I had a wifi signal)

I have this same issue on Android. The app won't open without an internet connection because mobile data is turned off, airplane mode is on or I just don't have a network connection. If I open the app when I have internet connection then switch on airplane mode I can access downloaded content with no problems. It's a nuisance as I like to listen to podcasts on long flights but I have to remember to open the app before I switch on airplane mode.
