Users on Android devices can't play content in Offline mode

We've received reports from Android users mentioning issues with Offline mode. When the device is set in Airplane mode or internet access is disabled, the app gets stuck on a black screen until a “You’re currently offline” error is displayed.

Our tech folks are currently looking into this. If you're experiencing this issue, make sure to add your vote and share the following details:

  • your device's make, model and OS version
  • the version of Spotify you're running
  • whether you're seeing
    -- a black screen;
    -- or an error message saying you're offline
  • timestamp of when you last experienced the issue including your time zone

A short screen recording which captures the exact behavior in action would also be greatly appreciated.

 

We'll keep everyone posted here as soon as we have any updates on the matter, so subscribe to the thread from the three dots menu at the top to stay tuned.

What is the use of using premium service if I can't access it offline you guys are stressing me out fix it please and it's just showing blank screen

im looking foward to move to another service soon, what i cant understand is why the devs act surprise at how bad the storage of the android app is, and how the service has been degrading year after year, is it that spotify is cutting jobs? not paying well and devs are leaving? there is a ton of telemetry going on the app at the background (check with duck duck) and here are asking for environment info? come on....

I'm having the same problem. The app is completely blank without an internet connection. I've already tried clearing the cache and storage, toggled offline mode and access on/off, and even reinstalling it, but the issue is still there. I'm running the app in Funtouch OS (Vivo).

Same issue - black screen. It's happened twice in the last two weeks when no cell signal. It is seriously frustrating. New issue that hasn't happened previously.

Hello, back here after almost 2 months...
This error is really annoying in my daily use of Spotify 😕
I m finally sending a screen rec, but I sincerely doubt that it ll help..
Yes, I did the advised steps before.


My specs here: OnePlus Nord AC2003_11_F.18, Android 12, security update 5th november 2023

Video starts right after I turned my phone and the recorder on.

I would like to share my feedback on this.
I have the same kind of problems with the airplane mode:
- The app is not starting (black screen only).
- The app can start, but the offline downloaded playlists can take up to 10 to 30 seconds to load.
When I enable the network again, it works correctly.
I have a Google Pixel 7 Pro with Android 16, and my app version is 9.0.64.608.
I have tried to clear the cache, but nothing.
I have had this problem for a few months now.
I took a look at the logs, and there is this error: "ActivityThread: Failed to find provider info for androidx.car.app.connection".
Hope this helps. I can also send the full log file if needed.

Offline Spotify does work weirdly indeed...
Considering data market (exchange between firms, analysis and sale), it's not in Spotify's interest that we use it offline. So we shouldn't be surprised if it's not stable nor very handy...
For the past years, I've sometimes had unaccessible files that are downloaded, or songs that become unaccessible for no reason. Some glitches that just resolve when putting connection on. Meaning some other things than music supposed to be downloaded are required from internet by Spotify...

 

Tbh I suspect this glitch to be intentionnal, but let's cross our fingers !

The basics features are here doing the job overall though, except this glitch that might end up putting me out after all these cost raises too. Free music is still available on the net 🙂

Hello,

same problem here with the following configuration :

-Samsung Galaxy S22+

-Spotify Premium Duo

-Spotify v.9.0.66.655

-Android 15

Opening the app while in offline mode shows the Spotify startup logo, then a blank screen. Whenever the phone is switched to online mode, the app interface shows back again.

I posted that issue weeks ago and nothing changed.

If that problem ist not solved, Spotify is not the right service for us.

Hi all, same here, black screen since about 2 weeks when I open Spotify on airplane mode.
