My Question or Issue
Everytime I open the app it switches playback to repeat/loop. It's not much of an issue if I hit play on a playlist. But I generally don't use playlists except at work. When I search a song and click it to play, its automatically on repeat. Since the "playlist" for one song is well... One song. That means it defaults to repeating the same song. I know the "solution" is to just uncheck the loop. But it's a hassle to open the player and change it every single time I start the app with a new session. And I'm usually not thinking about that. I'm thinking "I wanna listen to Torna a Casa and the rest of the songs the algorithm suggests like it." And it makes it essentially impossible to start listening hands free.
Screenshots of behavior and settings.
Hey there folks,
Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to post their details in the thread. We really appreciate the cooperation and have forwarded the info to the relevant team. They'll be investigating and as soon as we have an update, we'll let you know.
In the meantime, make sure to keep Spotify up-to-date and the Community's here if you need help with anything else.
Cheers!
I have a similar issue but not with a phone/computer. When I play music through my Denon AVR-S750H A/V receiverusing Spotify Connect (either from the phone or PC, doesn't matter), I have Repeat turned off on the device controlling Spotify (phone/PC), but after the album is done, the receiver repeats the album. My phone/PC will show me that the music is paused, even though it's still playing. I have to click Play then Pause to get it to stop.
I don't know of a way to update the app or configure it in any way on the receiver.

I have tried everything that has been suggested, including rebooting and clean install. For the last 2, maybe even 3 months, everytime I open the app, the album or playlist has repeat on by default. My settings are set for autoplay similar content, so repeat should never be turned on by default.
I also have this issue. It's the moment it connects to my car's Bluetooth (2015 Prius is that matters) it switches on repeat. So anytime I search for a song and play it, it just keeps repeating that song forever. Until I switch off repeat which will come back on the next time I connect to the car.
I just tested with a regular Bluetooth speaker and it doesn't turn on repeat when I connect to that. So I think it has to do with the autoplay that happens when it connects to the car.
I also would love to know how to prevent it from auto playing every time it connects to the car. I can have Spotify completely closed on my phone and I turn on my car and it magically starts playing. I have a job where I have to get out of my car and then start it back up many times throughout the day. Sometimes I want a couple hours of quiet, with Bluetooth still connected for navigation. But Spotify turns on every single time and I have to hit the pause button.
Phone is Pixel 7 running Android 14.

Hey there folks,
Thank you to everyone that's sharing their details in the thread, it really helps us!
So we can investigate this even further, we'll need some more info about the app's behavior. If you haven't already shared this with us, it'd be amazing if you could let us know the following:
Thanks and we'll be on the lookout!
iPhone 13 Pro Max
iOS 17.3.1
Spotify 8.8.92.666
This exact thing has been driving me insane. Every time I connect to the Bluetooth on my Subaru, the repeat toggle gets turned on. Why??????
I don't normally use Spotify without Bluetooth, but today I've tried several times with Bluetooth off, and Repeat never turned itself on.
Google Pixel 7a, Android Version 14
Spotify Version 8.9.18.512
I have been having this issue ever since getting this phone late last year I believe. The repeat function keeps turning itself on. Very frustrating. I always have bluetooth on, so I can't say if toggling bluetooth fixes the issue. I have tried clearing the cache, clean reinstall, etc.... it seems like it affects a lot of pixel devices (although apparently some Iphones as well). This is certainly an active problem!
For me, it’s only happening when my phone is connected to my car stereo via Bluetooth. At all other times (even when connected to my headphones via Bluetooth) the repeat function works normally.
Same here. iOS updated and Spotify updated. New phone. iPhone 15 pro. Always does it when I connect my phone to CarPlay. Never did it when I used the Bluetooth on my really old aftermarket stereo. Seems to happen with any Bluetooth now.
I like to listen to playlists and then let the smart shuffle take over and this just keeps playing the playlist.
Hey folks,
Thanks for sharing this info.
Can you also send us the exact steps to reproduce the issue or a video showing your actions so we can forward it to our tech team?
Cheers,
With Bluetooth connected to either Bose headphones or Toyota, open Spotify and select an album or playlist. Repeat is turned on automatically and must be turned off manually. This also applies to Google voice controls in vehicle.

Here is a screen recording. I search for and play a song with Bluetooth off. It is normal at this point with repeat not on. I then turn on Bluetooth on my phone and it connects to my car, then repeat turns on automatically.
Hey Spotify team, any update on when this might get fixed? I've also been experiencing this for months.
I posted earlier about having the same issue everyone else is having here but it has stopped happening for me. All I did was turn off repeat on the Spotify app on my phone once, since then it has not turned itself back on, neither on my phone or computer.
I honestly have no idea if that is what stopped it but it was happening every single time, now it has not happened for a week or so since I did that.
Just something others might want to try - no idea if it will be useful, it could have been something else that stopped it.
Also, if it still helps Spotify, my details are:
Spotify for macOS (Intel)
1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c
Samsung Galaxy S21 Android 14
I hope it's useful to someone

Spotify 8.9.24.633
Repeat automatically turns on, seems to be whenever I connect to my car (2021 VW Jetta) through Bluetooth or through wired connection.
Incredibly frustrating issue.
I am also having this infuriating problem. It seems to happen most frequently when I use the search function to find a song or album instead of just playing off a playlist, etc. On my desktop, I've got Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.33.1042.g26c92729. I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 with app version 8.9.24.633 . I have re-booted my phone to no avail. I have not tried a fresh install and frankly don't have the time or patience. I am about ready to switch YT music instead...
