Clicking on album art no longer jumps to the current playlist.

Solved!

Clicking on album art no longer jumps to the current playlist.

Clicking on the album art for the currently playing song no longer jumps to that song's position in the current playlist. Instead, it takes me to the album page associate with that track. Except it doesn't even take me to the album page as if I had clicked on the track title. Instead, it takes me to the very bottom of the album page. This is not useful in any way, so I'm going to give spotify the benefit of the doubt and assume this is a bug and not a newly introduced feature.

If this is a new feature for some reason, well, I guess we'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

There was a feature in the old versions where clicking on the song icon in the bottom left corner would bring you to the playlist where it was played.

It was a very good navigational feature and certainly more useful than what clicking on the icon does now (which brings up the now playing menu on the right side).

Hi @dxb4,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community, and welcome!

There’s currently a Live Idea for bringing back the functionality of clicking on the album art in the bottom left corner to return to the current position in the playlist that you're playing from. If it's something you’re interested in, I'd recommend adding your +VOTE to the idea, as the more votes an idea gets, the likelier it is that Spotify will implement it; and you can read more about how feedback on ideas reaches Spotify here.

You can also Subscribe to the idea by clicking the three dots next to its title; that way you can be sure to be informed of any relevant updates.

In the meantime, as a workaround you can click once on the title of the playlist at the top of the “Now playing view" panel, and it will take you to the currently playing song's position in the playlist.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and have a good day!

Spotify, I swear to god, you guys had the perfect UX for your platform about 2 years ago, and since then it seems your teams are just swapping buttons around (like the minus/plus in Discover Now being flipped), messing with the Now Playing, and more like the dreaded killing of the Heart button. Just STOP! Like are you guys bored over there? and need something to do? Just because something exists in a state doesn't mean it constantly needs to change.

Don't be like Adobe and just mix things up and call it an "update". Familiarity is a boon to good UX, people hate having to constantly relearn how an app works; they want hop in, be familiar and know exactly how to navigate it, and feel safe with knowing how it works, and they end up loving it for years and years to come. If you guys keep changing things you're going to eventually start driving people away.

If you want to implement these kinds of potential UX variances, you HAVE to give users the option to opt out or make it a toggle in the options. To force users to a more annoying experience is bad business. PLEASE put back the ability, on the desktop app, to when I click the name of the song it takes me to the playlist, not the album page. PLEASE.

What's really annoying is that we're swamped with frequent updates, none of which solve the problems that the community here is upset about.

Hi there,

feeling completely lost after the last client update on Windows.
Usually you could jump back to your current playlist by clicking the album art.
now that doesnt work anymore, it just shows the sidebar with album information.

how can i view my current/active playlist?

greetings!

Agree while it does show "the source the current song/episode is playing from at the top of the Now Playing View," it does not show the Radio Playlist that was generated, and is being played, based off that source. This is the feature that was taken away.

When you click the album art, the Now Playing panel opens on the right. At the top you'll see the playlist name. Click on that and it'll take you back to the playlist. It's really clunky UX.

I have over 4,500 songs in my liked songs. I dont make playlists. I used to be able to just click the album picture in the bottom left of the app when a song was playing and it would take me to where the song is in my LIKED SONGS on the left. Then, you removed it, implemented a weird sidebar that shows was song was playing on the right. i can deal with that. Now you show me redundant info on the left and right of my screen. if i clicked on the right side, it brought me to the album/artist page. now it does it on the left too. i have 8+ years of songs saved in my liked songs. i want to be able to find when and where they're saved in my liked, not have every button lead to the album. thanks.

nowhere i click shows me where the song is in my liked songs. please bring it back. its so frustrating.

Please add this feature back, I used it all the time (I mostly listen from my liked songs). This was an essential feature for me, I've been paying for 8 years now, please don't make this the straw that break's my subscriptions back because I really don't want to have to use another music service.

They completely messed up when they removed the "Like" button ... man really!

This feature does not add any information or functionality, it removes functionality and adds clicks to the limited option of viewing the queue. There are so many complains here about this feature, you regressed the product.

The Solution:

Click the bottom left album art > the 'Now Playing' panel opens on the right > click the playlist name at the top of the 'Now Playing' panel

Ok so that does work, but WOW is that so unintuitive!!

How was anyone supposed to figure that out? It also isn't built around instinct, which good UX is. Users want to click the "now playing" in the bottom left to jump to where the song is in a playlist.
Look, I'm glad that this works, and that there's still a way, so thank you for showing us; but I still think it's absolutely a horrible UX/UI design choice.

This does not work in the liked songs playlist. In the playlists where it does work, it's slow and unintuitive.

Wonderful we have given up a useful feature for an additional 3rd way to open the same now playing menu.  The fact this was done with no warning is what makes this the most frustrating to me.

Not to mention the various things that used to be more intuitive and are no longer so, you have now removed an option that made me start considering switching to Tidal for the first time.

Why, when clicking on the thumbnail of the track that is now playing, does it only open some useless sidebar widget instead of showing me the track on my playlist? For me, this is one of the most non-UX changes I have encountered with you. I understand that at a certain point when everything works, one might question their own solutions, but don't reinvent the wheel, as you will be losing users.

My Question or Issue

I recently updated my operating system, and I guess as a result Spotify did the same with the app. It seems silly but I lost a pretty big aspect of my browsing habits through it. Once upon a time I could play a song on some random playlist and as it was playing, I would find myself wandering around Spotify and away from the playlist while it played. If I found myself curious about the song, or the playlist, I could click on the "now playing" album art and it would take me right to the song, in the playlist it was playing. Now it doesn't do that. Now it sends you to the album the song's on, which is kinda a worthless feature for me. Maybe I'm alone in this but I'm kinda annoyed to lose the feature. Is this something I can change in settings? Thanks!

Agreed, super annoying. Same with not knowing which tracks you've liked at a glance, absolutely absurd choice.

Do we have any chances that this thing is getting fixed?

Or do they just wait until we surrender?

For me personally this could really be that "one nuisance to much" issue that finally pushes me towards a different streaming service.
