My Question or Issue

I'm listening on several Sonos speakers via Connect. Recently, Spotify has started playing other music once the album I listen to has finished - i.e. it's using the Autoplay feature. Problem is: Autoplay is DISABLED on all devices, but it's still being used. How do I fix this? (I've already reinstalled Spotify on all devices.)

I can't believe anyone at Spotify thought this would be a good idea.    How do they not understand that many people put on music to fall asleep to and want it to end when an album is over as opposed to playing random music throughout the entire night and be woken up?  What you are doing is in fact having your audience play no music at all and giving those artists no listens.  This is just an absolutely terrible decision on Spotify's part.  Having auto-play being able to be turned off is about as basic a function as you can have on this streaming platform.  Just GARBAGE changes these days, guys.

I know it's a workaround, not a solution, but try using the Sleep Timer function to stop playback after a selected period of time. It will at least address your specific issue.

If this bug is not resolved in the next two weeks I'm switching streaming service. I've had a lot of problems with Spotify in the last year but this is the final straw, not being able to chose what is played should be considered a blocker for a release, it should be reverted with an apology.

Then being told to vote on it for it to be prioritized in your backlog adds insult to injury.

They've made the idea "live" but we're still waiting for an update here.

PLEASE confirm if you're going to fix this, and in what timeframe, or if it's how things are with Spotify now.

If you've got some daft business goal that requires forcing autoplay and alienating your customers I would like to know sooner rather than later.

Wow, this is incredibly frustrating. I listen to Spotify on Sonos, and I am also someone who typically listens to ALBUMS so it's beyond annoying when an album ends some random algorhythmic junk comes on if I haven't set up a queue in perpetuity. This will be the final straw and I will be cancelling my membership if this is not addressed quickly...

I don't want "suggestions" from Spotify and not based on algorithms. It's a matter of principle. In addition, Spotify's algorithms are plain stupid. For example, Spotify constantly suggests podcasts "For you" on the start page, even though I've never listened to a single podcast in the Spotify app. Even the most rudimentary algorithm should've figured out that I'm not interested in podcast by no.

Force-feeding people with unsolicited music ought to be prohibited, just like spam. Fortunately, both US and EU lawmakers are right now drafting legislation to curb the tech giants. Talk to your MP, Senator or Congressman to stop this brainwashing.

In the meantime, I go down to the basement to get my old CDs.

Yes, it was so much better in the old days when the payola DJ's told us what to listen to.🤔

This "feature" is completely broken. I can no longer play a song on a playlist and expect the rest of the playlist to play after instead it keeps spamming me with music I have no intention of listening to. The playlist isn't done but it doesn't care. I'm a UX designer, you guys should know users don't like getting control taken away from them on a service based platform like Spotify.

Amazingly, the autoplay feature has turned off on Spotify Connect through my Wi-Fi-speakers, since last night. Which is good, because I hated this new autoplay feature.

Can anyone confirm?

Never mind, the autoplay connect feature seems bugged in itself. On some albums it continues autoplay, on others it doesn't. Frustrating.

Spotify, please give us control over autoplay when playing over Spotify Connect.

Or disable it.

I checked a few minutes ago. Autoplay is NOT turned off! This Swedish company does not listen to its customers, which is completely incomprehensible. Let's say you stream via 4G. Who will pay for gigabytes that exceed your paid amount of gigabytes because autoplay continues forever?

I 100% agree with all of you. I refuse to believe that forcing autoplay on for connected devices is something that has been demanded by us users. It is extremely hard to imagine the rationale behind such a design decision (if indeed it was an active design decision). And Spotify's seemingly arrogant attitude is disappointing and frustrating.

I can only hope that behind the massive wall of silence Spotify are working on rolling back this bug. Sorry, I mean feature.

Yes, this is still an issue 2021-11-16. I'm an old person, I want to listen to music through ALBUMS. It's (IMHO) how most of what I listen to was meant to be enjoyed. Since I use Sonos, I'm now affected by this BUG just like everyone else. I hate it. It's like having a toddler in the dj booth that I can't get rid of.

I know it's not ideal, but I still think it's way better than the sleep timer "workaround" suggested by others, at least for Sonos users: as I posted earlier, when I use the Sonos app to start a Spotify album on a speaker, I don't get garbage at the end of the queue, including those albums where I get autoplay when started from within the Spotify app.
I noticed that while trying out Deezer, as there using the Sonos app is apparently the only way to play stuff on Sonos devices.
Can others maybe confirm this, or is this only for me?

[edited for clarity]

I can confirm the same behavior. If I play an album via the Sonos app it plays that album and only that album.

Although not strictly an answer to elektrokokke’s question regarding the Sonos app, it did make me wonder if the same were true of using my Alexa speakers directly, and sure enough after asking Alexa to play a single album from Spotify, when I checked what was in the play queue there were NO additional autoplay tracks added to the end of the it!

It’s probably safe to say then, that if you can initiate an album or playlist via a non-Spotify source, you will not get unwanted garbage at the end of it.

This then, may be considered another workaround until such time as Spotify deign to once again grant us the privilege of allowing proper control over what is played on our own accounts.

Oh, and Spotify… your silence on this thread is deafening.

Get your act together, Spotify! Listening on Sonos and it’s highly irritating one cannot disable your autoplay. I don’t need nobody shoving me stuff down my throat/ears. This is not why I got a premium account. Stop Rick rollin’ your members!!!!

Setting autoplay to off is broken on the desktop PWA please fix it thanks

Absolutely ridiculous change on Spotify's part. Everytime I think I get used to them removing useful user feature they take away another. Using it on Xbox app, no longer have any options on the app. Would very much like to know when an album ends so I can listen to it as a complete record. Throwing similar songs on after it ends means I can't tell when it's over.

Just found the thread. The change that Spotify made is totally stupid. Absurd when you want to listen to an ablum, and even worst when listening to classical music. I don't want a random movement of whatever work to follow the music I carefully choose. Spotify needs to change that asap. Otherwise, I will move to Tidal (which might happen anyways if Spotify HiFi isn't available soon).
