My Question or Issue

The explicit filter seems to turn back on every time the app updates. The switch itself stays off but explicit content gets blocked. The only way to fix it is turn the switch on, restart the app, turn it back off, and restart the app again.

Hey @AriaTheSinger,

Thank you for letting us know about this.

I did some research and couldn't find a recent similar issue, so what I'm thinking we can try here is go for a complete clean reinstall of the app. This will ensure there are no leftover data files from the previous installation. Once this is done, monitor the app behaviour when the next update comes along. In case the issues return, let us know in this thread.

Keep us posted on how things go 🙂

Just wanted to let you know I'm still having this issue even after an app reinstall and also an entire new phone.

Hey @AriaTheSinger,

We're sorry to hear that the issue persists with your new phone.

Are you logged in to Spotify on any other devices with the same account? If so, could you try toggling the Explicit Content setting on and then back off on one of those devices, then log out and back in to force a settings resync?

It'd also be helpful to check whether changes made to the explicit filter on the other device are reflected in the app settings on your phone. Since the explicit content preference is an account-wide setting, the status should stay synced across all devices.

Let us know what you find, and if possible, tell us which other devices you're using with the account. We'll continue investigating from there.

Cheers,

I did sign out everywhere because as far as I know I'm not signed in on any
devices I currently own other than my phone where I've been having the
issue so if that was the issue it would've had to have been recognizing a
reset device.

Hey again @AriaTheSinger,

Thanks for the additional info.

It's a good idea to use this link to force all active login sessions to end. When this is done, log back in and see if changing the setting this time around would make the change stay permanent.

In case the issues persist, the next logical thing in mind is that there's some account-related fault at play here. To see if this is the case you can create a new free Spotify account for testing purposes.

Keep us posted on how things go. We'll be on the lookout for your reply 🙂

So obviously if I'm writing this the issue continued lol. When you want me
to switch to a free account, do you want me to just log out and create a
new account under a different email? I had a more specific question than
this but it has escaped me so hopefully this gets the information I wanted.
😂

Thanks for the quick response @AriaTheSinger.

Yes, exactly - to register a new account with another email address. We understand that this is not an ideal suggestion, but it would really help us determine if the issue is account-related.

As a workaround (and if it's possible) instead of creating a new account, you could ask a relative or a friend to log in to their existing account on your phone to test if the behavior persists for them.

Many thanks and don't hesitate to let us know if you've got any other questions in the meantime!

Ok so two weeks of the new account and this hasn't happened. What now? Do I
just need to transfer everything to the new account?

Hi there, @AriaTheSinger

Thanks for coming back to us!

Yes, no worries, now you can transfer your library from the old account to the new one by following the steps here.

If you have any issues with that or anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you!
