Music Pausing Randomly

Solved!

Music Pausing Randomly

I have premium and all my songs downloaded, but my songs will just randomly pause every few seconds. I'm able to unpause them immediately but it's very annoying.

Hey @Ljb93,

Are you maybe using Discord as well?
As @Hottesthead has mentioned, it causes the issue on their end, so I wonder if the same is happening to you.
Note that this same error has occurred in the past on mobile devices and it turned out that it was being caused by Discord's app being active on a desktop device.

With this in mind - in addition to providing the details, requested by @Maria, it's worth a shot to see if removing the access to this or any other third-party app would make a difference.
Tip: Those apps can later be re-added 🙂

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

I do not use discord.

Hi @Ljb93,

Thanks for the reply. Could you please try the steps for removing access as suggested before and if that doesn't work, please send us a video of the exact behaviour so we can investigate in detail. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Let us know how it goes.

same issue! every 32-33 seconds the music pauses. tried to delete the app and reinstall it on laptop and it still pauses for no reason. same issue on phone too. i can press play immediately when it pauses but that's not the point. i'm a premium user and it's only started happening yesterday out of nowhere. it also pauses when music is playing through the speaker (when my airpods aren't connected to my phone or laptop) so i don't think its a bluetooth issue.

wait i fixed it, i just put my music on repeat (so the playlist repeats, and also on repeat with the little 1)

Cuando reproduzco música en la app o en la computadora, se pone pause solo después de unos segundos, ayuda por favor

Almost a year later, on an iPhone 15 Pro Max I am encountering these issues. Music stops every couple of seconds and I have completed ALL steps in thread more than once.

It stopped every time I get a notification from my Outlook Email, Calendar, WhatsApp. It started about 2 weeks ago. Before that I only had trouble with it stopping midway through songs on my Google nest. So, i have just stopped using it through that which is not a solution. I have uninstalled it from my tablet, so I only have it on my phone and laptop (Where I have reinstalled it twice, cleared that cache, I have done everything mentioned in the thread and I don't have discord on my laptop)

I have premium and the abrupt pause is seriously breaking my work focus. If this continues, I may need to start using another streaming service.

Do you have discord on your mobile device with Spotify linked into it?

Dont have to be in discord, just having the connection linked messes it up. I had this issue for just over a week and removing the connection between the 2 apps fixed it immediately.

Not sure if this would work the same on any other apps that link Spotify into them.

I have the same problem.

Samsung A55, Android 14

Spotify 8.9.56.618

When playing through Bluetooth speakers (UE boom, and no-name brand), Spotify pauses after ~1min.

When unlocking phone to play again it's like the app has gone to sleep and reopens again but back to the paused song.

No other audio/app is playing at the same time.

5G connected with 5 bars reception.

This issue makes Spotify completely unusable. I use Spotify when entertaining, commuting, working out. But if this isn't fixed it is useless in all cases and I'll need to seek and alternative. Other audio/video apps have no issue and do not pause playback (eg Audible).

I have a second, related issue. When I receive a notification, Spotify also pauses, and needs restarting. It seems like Spotify is very sensitive to anything else going on in the OS and causes it to pause. Frustrating as these are all new problems in the last month or so (can't recall when it started).

everything i see keeps saying to redownload or clear cache but nothings working:-(

Same, I've been experiencing this issue for a week, and no luck either.

I tried clearing the cache, i made sure both my phone and the app were up to date, i closed out of all of my apps, i turned off my phone, and when none of those worked, i deleted and redownloaded the app. It still wont quit pausing my music. i cannot do anything is silence so i really need this fixed.

My Spotify stops weather I'm in the car or Mifo or anytime just stops. It just randomly stops but all the time.
I am not a new member same devices.

Having similar issues to above on both Apple TV Spotify App and PC app (Spotify for Windows (64 bit)
1.2.51.345.gcc39d911). Free Account, music will play for 15-20 seconds and then pause at random.

Marked as solution

Hey folks,

We wanted to sum up what was suggested in the thread already so that you can give these steps a try if you haven't:

  • Perform a clean reinstall of the app.
  • Remove the connected apps from your account page. There was a similar issue with Discord, so if it's in your app list, try removing it.
  • Double-check your device's settings to make sure Spotify isn't blocked by some Android one.
  • Check if the issue occurs with another account - a friend's or a relative's would do.
  • Try power-cycling your router. We'd recommend unplugging it from the power outlet > waiting around 60-120 sec > plugging it back in to see if that helps.
  • If you're using a VPN, try disabling it temporarily as well.

Something else that's worth trying is going to your Wi-Fi settings and switching the frequency band of your router to 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz. Another thing you can try is disabling DHCP and changing the DNS by following the steps here.

If the above doesn't do the trick, could you send us a screen recording so that we can have a closer look? If the file is too large to attach, you can upload it to Google Drive (make sure to allow general access to the file) or as an unlisted YouTube video.

The following details would also be required in order to have this reported:

  1. Your device's make, model and OS version
  2. The Spotify version you're currently running

Let us know how it goes 👍

I have already contacted spotify about this b4 emptied cashe but it didn't make any difference. It also said the delete a particular file were it locatable. After an extensive search of my phone it wasn't located.

Estoy escuchando mi música y de la nada de pausa

My songs keep pausing at 30 seconds exactly each time and I've done all steps on your website and also tried streaming it through other devices on a different WiFi and it's all the same.

My Question or Issue
Spotify randomly stops playing.

I listen to books as I sleep (insomniac, and bedtime stories help).  I wake up when Spotify has stopped (usually mid-chapter).  This also happens during the day when listening to music, Spotify stops mid-track and I need to stop what I'm doing, restart the app and refocus on what I was doing prior.

I have restarted my devices.  I have updated Spotify.  I have uninstalled, downloaded fresh and then reinstalled Spotify.  I have made sure my account is in good standing and paid in full.

There is a 'we're aware' message on the boards but no information, no ETA for resolution.  I'm not even certain if this message relates to my issue as there is zero information.

Subscription prices go up but I receive worse product.  In this day of having to chose between a 'subscription' and groceries, why would I continue to pay for something that does not work as promised?

I do not feel valued or respected as a client.
