Since weeks I am unable to use Spotify on my Onkyo reciever (709). The issue is that I can login, but all my playlists are empty.
In the past a (some) factory reset(s) helped, but not anymore. There seem to be multiple people with this problem as can be read on:
https://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/onkyo_spotify_problem
https://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/playlists_empty_using_onkyo_709_receiver_app

I contacted Onkyo support some time ago and they pointed to Spotify (although I think the problem is in the Onkyo).
Recently the Onlyo support does not even respond anymore.
Perhaps someone at Spotify can poke the Onkyo people?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Yesterday Spotify (Germans Support) solved my problem. They found an error in my plalists and repaired it.
I connected my user again on the av-receiver and all the playlist are fine. Last step i disconnect the first user (with the same name) and everything works fine. Maybe the user have an other ID by the same name.
Greetings Oliver
I've been having problems getting my playlists that I create with both the web and desktop versions of Spotify showing up on my Onkyo 709 receiver, which I purchased just a week ago. The playlists I created before purchasing the Onkyo have, for the most part, appeared. But any changes or additions do not show up. I've tried all the "temporary solutions" I could find on the forums regarding this problem (creating new account, turning off DHCP, etc.) to no avail. I've waited for days for changes to show up...no go. Guess I'll be canceling my premium membership when the 30-day trial is over.
I have an 828 and cannot get it to login to Spotify. It keeps giving me a standard login error. I tried the user name and password several times to confirm that its correct, and it is.

Yes I do. Have had it for a couple of years.
I had the exact same problem as GnBObelix with my NR414. The issue started after I upgraded my ISP provider and got a new router.
In the end the way I fixed it was to create 2 new playlist folders and moved the playlists from the broken folders into the new ones. That has fixed the issue for me.
But there definitely seems to be some problem with this onkyo spotify app and syncronizing. My best guess is that if the Onkyo version of the app gets too far out of sync with your spotify account or other spotify players then it just stop syncronizing correctly. Or maybe if it fails to sync once after the network change/failure and then stops co-operating. Anyway whatever the issue is it's one more thing for people to try if they want to resolve it themselves.
Hi,
Kind a crazy.
Playlist syncing works perfectly.
Unfortunately my Onkyo 828 refuses to play a single song from Spotify.
I'm able to log in but every list shows "playlist emtpy"
Any ideas?
Thank you
Christian
I think it looks liken a problem with the database.
How about the Spotify support? Did you contakt them?
I have the same problem -- every album/search result list is shown as 'This list is empty' -- problem occured in the past with search results, but since yesterday every list not synced as playlist is affected. So I can play the stuff I added as playlist but nothing else; since I mostly use search results to listen to stuff, spotify is ATM useless to me. There was no recent firmware update for the onkyo (tx-nr414). The setup mostly worked for over a year.
I have the same problem. Just reported it to Spotify. Hopefully they will fix it soom.
At first I thought that my processor is broken, but it seems that the problem is with Spotify since others are experiencing the same problem.
Thanks - very cool! Would you mind telling me just /how/ you contacted spotify? Maybe I'm to enraged to think straight, but I didn't find an email-address or anything to contact spotify directly on their web-pages.
I used the web-based form from here:
https://www.spotify.com/fi/about-us/contact/
That is, I guess, for us Finnish customers, but I think that changing the proper part of the url would work.
Hi,
Just for the record, it is the same with tx-nr727. Sometimes Spotify does not work at all, sometimes one cannot log in or lists are empty. Spotify works perfectly on my smart tv or Iphone, so it is definitly onkyo's problem.
The thing is, that the sound from tv spotify app is not that good as from onkyo, what makes me even more upset.
Could anybody push someone from Onkyo to improve that?
I would be interested to know what the error in your playlists was.
I recently had a problem with Spotify always crashing after a few minutes when starting up on a Marantz Melody MCR610 network music player. It turned out that one of the playlists Spotify had imported from iTunes when I set it up was too big for the player to cope with.
The implementation of Spotify on 'partner devices' does not seem as robust as on my Mac, PC and mobile device.
Hi everybody,
I just wanted to let you know that I solved my problem with empty playlist for my Onkyo 709 and Spotify.
Hopefully this helps:
My Onkyo was connected to the internet via the Onkyo Wireless Dongle and a Fritz.Box.
What I tried and what didn't work:
- delete all playlist and create a new one
- register a complete new premium account
- factory reset the Onkyo 709
- remove wireless repeater
- change wireless encryption
F*CK! I was really frustrated, because internet radio worked like a charm on my Onkyo ... just Spotify didn't.
I bought a devolo powerline adapter (internet via your house power lines) and I removed the wireless dongle.
Now Spotify works perfectly! Yes!
So if you are struggeling, just try to connect you Onkyo receiver directly to your modem/router, with a ethernet cable... just for a test.
If this works you know its a problem with your onkyo and your wireless lan. Then a powerline solution will probably fix your problem.
good luck!

I have a tx-nr727, and it is connect both to a wireless and ethernet, although the TX-NR727 took the ethernet, and I cannot log in. I can't count how many times I have attempted to login, it just will not do it. I have read this entire lhread, and attempted most of the success stories, but they have all failed me.

I always log in using Spotify username. Yes, I do have Spotify Premium account.
My tx-nr727 is connected wireless. At the moment I am not able to connect it using cabel, but soon I will for sure.
The problem is, that it often behaves like there is no Internet connection. I am not able to log in or the info "cannot play" is displayed when I want to listen my playlists or starred tunes. I have to plug the onkyo out, and plug it in again and sometimes it helps.
As I wrote previously, on my samsung smart tv everything is fine (it works wireless as well).
It is frustrating. I hope the cable will fix it.
Thx for all advices.
