Spotify doesn't give me the option to make my playlists private

Spotify doesn't give me the option to make my playlists private

Spotify no longer gives me the option to make my playlists private, instead it asks me if I want to add it to my profile no matter what (even if it's already public) and now new playlists I make automatically become public. The only way to take any playlists off my profile is to delete them.

HI there @theycallmeherny,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome aboard! The "Add to Profile" button is how you control playlist privacy. If you add it to your profile, then it will become publicly visible. If it was already public, you will see "Remove from Profile" instead. You can also change in the settings whether new playlists are public or private by default. Full details can be found here.

Hope this clears things up.

Hi! Thanks for responding to the OP! It seems that they are experiencing the same issue that I am currently, i.e. playlists currently public on my profile are still showing the "Add to Profile" option instead of "Remove from Profile" despite already having been added. The menu option isn't updating, so removal is currently impossible.

As seen here:

yes! that's exactly what's happening

It's so upsetting, I've been forced to delete playlists to make them private 😞

Hi folks,

Thanks for the screenshot @CSmith9876!

Interesting. Looks like you're using the Web Player @CSmith9876. Have you tried removing the playlist from your profile using the desktop or mobile app instead? If that doesn't do the trick, try the following workaround (you'll need to use the desktop app for this):

  1. Go to the app's Settings and make sure Publish my new playlists on my profile is toggled off (note that this option won't be visible in the Web Player's or the mobile app's Settings, so you need to use the desktop app instead).
  2. Now go to the playlist you'd like to hide from your profile and open it.
  3. Tap on the three dots menu and select Add to another playlist > Create playlist. This will add all tracks from your playlist into a new one, which won't be visible on your profile, since you've toggled off that setting.
Tip: Note that all new playlists are made public by default, so you'll need to manually turn the new playlist private by right-clicking on it > Make private.
  4. Once you've ensured that everything looks good with the new playlist, you can delete the old one.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Update: The menu bug seems to have been repaired, at least in my browser.
