I am currently on a family plan and am I’m wanting to leave my family account and start one with my wife, mom and I. Is there a way for my to remove my account from my current family plan and then create a new family account with my wife, she’s on her own plan, and mom without having to delete and make a whole new account? I’ve have this account for a LONG time and I have a lot of friends and music that I really don’t want to lose it. Thanks!
Can I transfer my account from my Family account without having to create a whole new account?

Hello @kenyonsnow,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community!
In order to start your own Family plan while keeping your Spotify account, you need to leave your current plan.
The plan’s manager (the person who started the plan) can invite or remove members by logging into their Family page at www.spotify.com/account/family.
You can also leave the current Premium Family plan:
After your account turns to Free, you can start your own Family plan.
Then other members can join your plan with their accounts and keep all their libraries.
More details on how to start Premium Family subscription and how to add your family members can be found here.
I hope you'll find this helpful!
Hi @kenyonsnow,
You should leave your current plan first and then, once your subscriprion reverts to Free, subscribe to Premium Family yourself.
Don't worry, you won't loose your account, it's just the subscription status that will change, but you'll still be able to use your current account, and to create your own Family plan with it.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi I have the same situation I want to leave a family plan but keep my account and music. As you've instructed above I'll leave the current plan and revert to free, but I just want to double check that in doing that I won't mess up anyone else's accounts or libraries on the original family plan?
Thanks
Thanks
Hey @Clz21,
Thanks for posting in the thread!
Your account and its contents, as well as those of your fellow plan members will remain unchanged even if you decide to leave the plan.
As @Emilia_8 has pointed out, only the subscription status will change 🙂
Hope this clears things up 🙌🏼
Hi! I just joined a family account but I did not cancel my singel account first. Are they still gonna bill me for my personal account?
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!
When you join a Family plan, your previous subscription gets cancelled automatically, so you don't have to worry about being charged for it.
Hope this clears things up.
So only the subscription status of the person leaving the family plan will change correct? I don’t want to cancel the whole family plan; just leave so I can do my own subscription (I am not the plan manager on the family plan).
Hey @E27G8Q8,
That's correct, if you're not the manager of the plan, only your account will revert back to free. Note that this won't have any effect on your saved music, you'll only need to redownload your playlists for offline listening.
We hope this helps.
Hi! My problem is similar. I am the plan manager of our family plan. But I plan on leaving the family plan (we are separating). How do I transfer the plan manager status (with the payments for it) to my ex-partner in the family olan?
Hey there @Arjunchoo,
Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community!
We're afraid it's not possible to transfer the plan owner's status in the Premium Family plan. In this case, what you can do is to cancel your subscription and wait for your account to revert to the free service (at the end of the billing cycle). Once this happens, all the members' accounts will revert to the free service as well. Then, your ex-partner will be able to subscribe with their own account here and afterwards, re-add the members. No worries, the accounts won't lose their content when reverting to the free service, they'll only need to re-download it as that's a Premium-only feature. Note that plan members can only switch plans once every 12 months.
Hope this helps. If you need a hand with anything else, the Community is here for you.
