Question:
I have Premium for Family, but only one person can listen at a time. Why?

Answer:
Hey @roxaneP,

Does each member of your family plan have their own Spotify account?

To be able to listen to music at the same time, all family members need to have their own Spotify account. If they don't have their own account yet, they can sign up here. You can then invite each family member to your Premium for Family plan by following these steps:

  1. Go to your account page.
  2. Click Premium for Family in the menu on the left.
  3. Click SEND INVITE.
  4. Enter the email address of the person you want to invite and click SEND INVITE. A confirmation email will be sent to you when they accept the invite and are added to the plan.

thank you for the answer!

He opened his account once I invited him.
When he did, it said that I was paying for him though!

Should we close his account and start over? He could open a new account, and i'll invite him after that?

Thank you

Hey @roxaneP,

It sounds like the invite hasn't been accepted from his end yet.

If he already has a Spotify account, I'd recommend trying to invite this account to the plan again. Don't worry, you won't need to make a new one.

Once your husband joins your plan, all payments for the Premium for Family subscription will be made by you, the plan owner. You'll then need to log in on your own accounts (that are all successfully on the plan) to get rocking at the same time.

Here are the steps for your husband to follow to join your Premium for Family plan:

  1. Have the owner invite you to their plan.

  2. You'll receive an email with a link to join. Open and click ACCEPT INVITATION. You're redirected to your account page, where you'll see a confirmation screen.
Note: If you're not already logged in or don't have an account yet, you'll be asked to log in or sign up before seeing the confirmation.

  3. Enter your details and click SUBMIT to join the Premium for Family plan.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Happy listening 🙂

I have had premium duo for more than a month now. We both have separate accounts and still only one person can listen at a time. No matter what I try it still doesn't work. Help would be very much appreciated.

Hey @NotBill,

Thanks for reaching out. Welcome to the community!

It sounds like someone might be logged into the wrong account. Please both try logging out of your devices, then logging back in using the email addresses that you each used to create to create your separate accounts.

The plan's manager (the person who started the plan) can check member accounts from their Duo page at www.spotify.com/account/duo

Let me know how it goes — I'll be here in case you need any further help 🙂

That is a ridiculous solution for families with children. The Family option is poorly named as such and offers no family oriented benefits for the additional upcharge. Yes, let me create emails, usernames and passwords for EACH of my children, with zero oversight.

Hey there @mpeterson86,

Thank you for your post in this thread and your feedback.

Premium Family is a discount plan for up to 6 family members who live together. Each person on the plan uses their own account, so no one shares a password and everyone keeps their own saved music and playlists

Premium Family comes with:

  • Spotify Kids - an app packed with singalongs, soundtracks, and playlists made just for kids. This is available in a few countries right now, but we hope to expand it soon.
  • Family Mix - a playlist based on the tastes of everyone on the plan.
  • Explicit filter - the plan’s manager can choose if members get explicit content.

Once again, thanks for the feedback. It's highly appreciated.

We're always one reply away if you need us.

Cheers!

Please help with Premium Family. We have created two seperate accounts for each parent using our own email addresses and one Spotify Kids account using the primary account holder's email address (our kids are under 4 and don't have their own email addresses).

When the primary account holder is playing music on one device, the other parent cannot play the Kids account on another device at the same time.

Hi @SBscho,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Here comes some information regarding kids account.

  • The kids account can only play music from a completely separate app
  • If you have multiple kids you should create individual accounts for each child, as you can't play on different devices simultaneously with just one account
  • To control the kids account from both yours and your partners account is not possible, only the plan manager can do that

Can you let us know who's using what device and app to play their music and check what account you're logged into?

Keep us posted 🙂

Cheers!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Thanks for responding to my inquiry.

The plan manager has set up the Kids account, but we have both downloaded
the Kids app on our phones. The problem occurs when the secondary account
holder has the kids in the car and is trying to play music using the Kids
app whilst the primary account holder is playing music using their login on
the Spotify app on their phone, or an Android TV device at the same time.

There must be a solution for this, otherwise the Family plan is
dysfunctional.

Regards,

Hi again @SBscho

Thanks for getting back to us with this info.

Keep in mind that it's not possible to play music in two different devices at the same time with the same account.

As @Jeremy mentioned, in order to be able to stream music without interruptions, you'll need to create individual Kids accounts.

Let us know if you have any other questions. We'll be right here.

Cheers.

If the multiple kids accounts are all associated with the primary account
holder, will it ever be possible for a child to listen to Kids app on one
device, while the primary account holder listens to Spotify app on another?

Hey @SBscho

Thanks for your reply.

That's correct. As long as each account is being used on a separate device, all plan members should be able to listen to music at the same time.

Hope this helps. We'll be here if anything else comes up.
