In app play

In app play

Some applications (Vertigo, SoundHound, etc) can play music from Spotify.
How do they do it?
iOS SDK does not provide such opportunities.

Hey @nikitadol, thanks for reaching out!

You can use the iOS SDK to control playback in the Spotify app, open tracks in the Spotify app or play a 30 second preview of songs (see: track object, WebAPI). Right now, it's not possible to stream directly within your app.

You can create an idea for this on the Idea Submissions board, if this is something you'd like to see. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a shout!

Also, the Web Playback SDK can be used by Spotify Premium users to stream audio in a web browser. There's more information about that here: https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/web-playback-sdk/

Have a good one,

Sorry to cannibalize someone else's thread but does that mean we can't play spotify in our app unless the user has their own spotify account?

Hey @lucidprojects, thanks for reaching out!

The Web Playback SDK and iOS/Android SDKs require a user to have a Spotify account. The 30s previews can be used without a Spotify account. Let me know if you have any questions!

Have a great day,
