Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

We have been using those SDKs since they became available.

Our particular app (Amazing Slow Downer) lets the user play music more slowly, since a couple of years ago also songs from Spotify. The "ios-streaming-sdk" is a beautifully designed framework that lets an audio developer do practically everything needed.
In our case it makes it possible to access the raw audio samples and this way process the sound and then playback the processed audio using our regular audio playback engine. With your new SDK this is not possible. It might be that the "ios-streaming-sdk" is more difficult to use for an average developer but that also makes it more powerful.

We have many users that uses Spotify. Many users switch from other streaming services such as "Apple Music", Tidal, Amazon Music etc to Spotify just to be able to slow down streaming music in real time.

We believe our app gives Spotify many many new subscribers, so many that it would actually pay off for Spotify to maintain the "ios-streaming-sdk".

We only use "playlist" functions and after fixing a couple of bugs in the "metadata framework" available on github, everything works 100%. Although there are certainly some bugs in the ā€œios-streaming-sdkā€, they are very few and don’t affect our app.

We also have an Android version of our app that uses your Android streaming SDK and it also works very good.

We believe Spotify will loose thousands of users, so many that the minimal cost Spotify need to spend on maintenance will pay off manifold.

Since our app also supports playback and slowing down of streaming Apple Music, many of our users will probably switch from subscribing to Spotify to subscribing to Apple Music.

You write:

"After September 1st, important functionality in the streaming SDKs will stop working."
Exactly what does that mean? What part of the SDK will continue to work?

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs!

I decided to end the subscription of spotify.

Because you don’t pay attention to our needs.

I will use apple music that loss less sound is better than spotify.

Spotify team I am shocked at the fact that you have not at least given us a reason to take us the joy of music from us. I am now subscribed to music from Apple and I am slowly but surely downloading all my songs while enjoying the 6 months of free membership offered.

FWIW I pay for both services and it's a feature I use.  I don't particularly want to change from Spotify.

Come on Spotify! Reinstate the ability to slow down music through an app like ASD as this just invaluable for musicians learning a new song.

Please, reconsider keeping this SDK and keep ASD working!

Hello there, another Amazing Slowdowner user here very disappointed by this decision.  I will be switching to Apple music as a result.

As a musician the functionality of amazing slowdowner was the reason for me to join Spotify. Since 9/22 this function is not available any mor due to new policy of Spotify. I’m very dissatisfied and will change to Apple Music or YouTube if Spotify doesn’t reconsider its policy.

I have been using Amazing Slow Downer on Spotify so much it has become a big part of my Spotify listening. Please, please make it work again!

I confess I am not a user of the 'Slow Downer' app, however I was user of an excellent equalizer app "SpotEQ". This app I believe used the same SDK features as the 'Slow downer' app.

The SpotEQ app really makes spotify audio go to another level, especially when used with a good DAC. Unfortunately the built-in spotify equalizer  just doesn't cut it, in fact it very quickly distorts and detracts from the audio quality. I understand spotify 'blocking' this SDK probably due to abuse by some other apps, but is there not a way app's can be 'white listed' so that they may continue to provide such a great synergy with spotify?

Please make ASD compatible with Spotify again.  This is a great app for learning new songs.   I want to be able to play along with all the songs on my favorite Spotify playlists!!!!

I am a long time Spotify user, and I literally just signed with Apple Music because of this issue.  If Apple Music works then I will cancel my Spotify account. This is a HUGE use case for me as a musician. I love Spotify, but when you remove needed functionality, that is not taking care of your users.

This change is a big bummer. It will make transcription even harder than it already is. I rely heavily on this function for learning music and it has so far been one of my best friends. So Spotify, please, let there be an amicable solution for this.

I've been using the Amazing Slowdowner app for a year and it has been a game changer in my guitar practice. Spotify has to understand that this app is only helping to attract and keep a big group of users.

There are technical possibilities to allow whitelisted apps to use the SDK. If ASD is made compatible again you will keep loyal users who will have an additional reason to use Spotify.

Please reconsider the decision!

Same here. I used ASD together with Spotify to practice. A great function!
I think it was a mistake to remove this. It will most likely force users to subscribe to alternative services instead.

I'm a user of this app and it's very helpful to learn an instrument (in my case the clarinet) and play along songs from my Spotify playlist, being able to transpose them and the slow them down.

Please, reconsider keeping this SDK and keep ASD working!

Please Spotify! Reconsider your decision to keep this SDK and keep ASD working. I am a musician and guitar teacher and use ASD a lot in my work. A lot of my students are becoming Spotify subscribers because of this. Most of the users of ASD are musicians and you should be supporting the community that gives you your livelihood.

For learning new songs on the drums, I used Amazing Slow Downer in combination with spotify since many years. Now that it's no longer possible to use Spotify as an audio source, I will cancel my subscription with Spotify.

I cannot understand why you guys @spotify made this decision...

I'm so disappointed in Spotify removing access to this api. I've used ASD with Spotify to learn music for the last few years and the removal of this api means that I can't continue using Spotify.

Simply put I need ASD to help me achieve my musical goals and so your decision forces me to switch to apple music.

I noticed apple music removed the same api earlier in the year but restored it after they realised how much it would disrupt music learning. Hopefully Spotify can learn a lesson from them.

Hi Spotify, I am an independent developer that uses your ios-streaming-sdk and am facing great trouble due to your removal of support for this SDK. Please reconsider your deprecation of a very well-functioning service!

I m a user of ASD and I will reconsider my subscription if things don’t change asap
