Web API - precise playback progress?

In the Web API is it at all possible to get accurate current playback timing? Progress_ms is always randomly delayed by 0.5-1.5s and timestamp in that response is not working. Assuming both my app and a player are on the same local machine.

This was asked several times over the years without the answer so I figured there could be a development in this field.
