I have a friend that I would like to buy Spotify Premium for. I saw that gift cards are discontinued. Is there another way to buy premium for a friend? I don't want to pay for a monthly subscription for them.

Yes, Spotify has officially discontinued gift cards. A workaround is to purchase a prepaid gift card with a balance on it equivalent to the amount of months/years you'd like to gift to your friend. Then, your friend should be able to update their payment method here with the gift card details and purchase Premium that way.
