My Question or Issue

I have been a Basic Individual subscriber for several years. There was a bug that started and was resolved today where Basic plan subscribers started receiving ads. I did not know about this forum when this happened, so I thought the Basic plan was changed suddenly to include ads. That was the only reason I changed my plan to Premium Individual, which I otherwise would not have done. Immediately after I changed my plan, I found this forum and saw the ads were a Basic plan bug. I then tried to return my account to Basic Individual and could not. I have searched this forum and the Support articles extensively, and multiple articles and threads say I should be able to do this since I only changed my plan, I didn't cancel it. But there is no option for me to switch back to Basic Individual.

 

This is a terrible customer experience to provide longstanding Premium subscribers such as your Basic plan subscribers. I need a way to switch my account back to Basic Individual within the next 24 hours, or I will be cancelling my subscription and exploring competitors' options for ad free listening. Please advise on how I can resume my Basic Individual subscription.

 

I took a screen recording of my Android app to show this but I cannot attach it via the mobile browser post creation interface. I will try again after posting.

My 5-second screen recording is too large of a file so here are screenshots of my Android app showing the plans available. Basic Individual is not one of them and it should be. There is nothing after Premium Student in the options 

I spoke with an advisor and we came to the following resolution:

1. Cancel my Premium Individual subscription

2. Wait for my account to become a Free account at the end of the billing period

3. Re-engage with Spotify Support and reference an ID he gave me to call back to our conversation, so they know we agreed to reinstate my Basic Individual plan at that time.

 

We'll see if this works! If it does, then I hope Spotify updates their Support documentation, because it currently suggests canceling your subscription will make you ineligible for Basic plans. If it doesn't work, I will be very disappointed and will not return as a customer.

Sorry you ran into this trouble! I see you have already spoken to Customer Support and they have a plan for you. Normally yes, if you revert to a Free account you will become ineligible for the Basic plan, due to there being certain requirements for an account to be able to take advantage of the plan, the documentation is still correct.
