for how long did you have to cancel it for? was it immediate for you or did you have to wait?

In general, when you cancel your subscription, your Premium stays until your next billing date, then your account switches to free. However, do note that if you cancel during a zero-priced free trial period, your account will switch over to our free service immediately.
In case you're trying to redeem the '5-months for the price of 1' offer, you'll need to first cancel your current subscription and when your account reverts to free, you should be able to redeem the offer through the relevant webpage.

I tried entering the code through the link you shared, but it shows: “You’re not eligible for that offer. You can still purchase Premium Individual below.”
Any idea why this is happening?

Can you let us know which offer you're trying to take - the 3-month or 5-month one? In case it's the 3-month one, keep in mind that it's only for users who haven't tested Spotify Premium before so in case you have, then that would be the reason why you're getting this error.
If you have a code for the 5-month offer for the price of one, make sure your account is on the free service and keep in mind that you can only take it once per account. In case you meet these eligibility criteria and you're still getting an error message, do let us know and we can take a closer look.
