My Question or Issue

Hi,

I can't delete or rename some folders in my account. It neither works in the Win10 Desktop App nor in the Web Player. When I move some folders around i get another order in the Web Player and in my iPhone App.

I tried also to logout, restart and login again and reinstalling the Win10 App.

After googling and reading some threads here, I think my Playlist structure is corrupted. Can you please check this?

Thank you 🙂

Hey @erbach,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

Could you log out and log back in again a couple of times or try connecting to a different network?

If that doesn't work, let's try performing a clean reinstall of the desktop app like described here. This way we can be sure, that we're dealing with a fresh Spotify installation. Does it work afterwards?

Do you encounter the same issue by trying to rename a folder using the web player?

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

I am having an issue renaming my "new folder" on Spotify on my 2-in-1 Dell Chromebook. I can't right-click to change the name of the folder and long pressing just gives me the "new folder" option. I don't know what to do. Please help!

Hey @sahrawakehouse45,

Thank you for your reply in this thread.

Does the issue occur on a different device with your account or with a different account on your device? It'd be a good idea if you can ask a friend or a family member to log in on your device to test if they'll be able to rename folders.

In case the issue persists on their account as well, try performing a clean reinstall of the app on the affected device. This usually tends to solve this issue. We also recommend this step since it'll get you the latest app version with all necessary updates and remove any corrupted files from previous installations.

On another note, it'd be great if you can share with us your device's OS along with the Spotify version you're currently running. A quick video or couple of screenshots that you can provide will also be helpful to identify what's causing the issue.

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

And I'm here at the end of 2022 with this problem...

Hey @bestie_313

Thanks for reaching out about this and welcome to the Community.

Could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid repeating any steps.

On another note, we'd like to know if this happens across devices or if it happens only on a specific one.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

I'm trying Spotifys folder feature for the first time, and on my laptop iv had the hardest time trying to right click and find the feature. so I went to file, add folder, then it won't let me rename the folder or delete it. i'm not sure what to do.

Hey @cora02hall,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd like to check: what exactly did you mention when mentioning "went to file"? It'll help us a lot to clarify what's happening.

On another note, we'd like to share with you this article, in which you can check how playlist folders work and can be created. We'd recommend taking a look at it. Did you already try creating the folders from the web player, or are you trying to do it from the desktop app?

Lastly, would you mind sending us the make/model and OS of the device on which you're trying to create the folders, along with the Spotify version you're running there?

I think there used to be a Rename option when I right clicked on a Playlist, but I don't see it anymore. Am I crazy or when did that go away? I know I can change it through the "Edit details," but why get rid of the Rename?

How can I remove my folders but still keep my original playlists intact because if I were to delete the folder it will include my playlists also, so how do you solve this problem? Thank you to whoever replies.

Hey there @Ashy10

Thank you for your post here in the Community.

From the WebPlayer and desktop app, you have the option to move the playlists to a different Folder. Just go to the playlist > right-click or select the 3 dots > Move to folder. Another option is dragging the playlists out of the Folder. You can check the steps given by another user here. Once done, you can just delete the Folder and not lose any of your content.

We recommend checking out this post, where you will find some helpful info to enjoy the Desktop: New Your Library sidebar.

Let us know how that goes!

My guess is to take your playlists OUT of the folder and THEN, delete your folder

Yup, you're right @melrusso. Deleting the folder while the playlists are still in there will delete them as well, but they can be recovered from the account page.

@Ashy10, to move them out of the folder, you need to set the filter in Your Library to Playlists and the sort to Custom order:

Now you can expand the folder, take the playlists out one by one and delete the folder safely. Note that depending on the folder's current position in the sidebar you may need to drag the playlists upwards or downwards.

I'm trying to delete some folders but can't - nothing happens, the folder in still there. Any ideas?
