We know that our users love creating their own playlists to capture key moments in time – in fact, playlists created by users often become their most-streamed playlist for the first several months but listening to these playlists slowly fades overtime, and users are eager to discover new music.
With this in mind, we’re excited to launch a new play mode called Smart Shuffle that keeps listening sessions fresh and provides personalized recommendations that perfectly match any listeners’ playlist vibe.
This update will roll out to Premium users on mobile devices starting today.
How does Smart Shuffle work?
Adding and removing recommendations.
Different playback options.
What about the Enhance feature?
For now, Smart Shuffle will replace the Enhance feature.
What will happen to Discover Weekly and other regularly updated playlists?
For the time being, no changes to those will be made. Smart Shuffle aims to improve the listening experience for user curated playlists.
Does this mean that using Smart Shuffle will cause my carefully curated playlists to get cluttered with new recommendations?
No! Your original playlist remains untouched, so you can add any new track that catches your ear. Smart Shuffle won’t change your playlist without your explicit permission. What changes instead is what you'll hear during each specific listening session
We hope you're as excited as we are about this new play mode. The official Newsroom announcement is out, you can check that out too. For any and all feedback on the matter you may have, you're more than welcome to comment in the thread below.
please just fix regular shuffle so that it shuffles the entire playlist instead of the same 15 songs over and over.
I don't like 21 Savage. 21 Savage is contsantly in my playlist. I can listen to 9 songs without 21 Savage coming up again. TURN SMART SHUFFLE OFF.
I looked this topic up specifically to leave feedback about it. I LOVED the Enhanced Playlist feature and wanted to start adding songs to a playlist I hadn't listened to in a while when I discovered that the feature had been removed and replaced. I loved how it added new songs directly to the playlists and how adding the songs to my playlists permanently would, in turn, spawn other recommendations. I discovered a ton of new music that way, and all the recommendations were exactly what I was looking for.
I was hoping Smart Shuffle would be a comparable feature, and it's terrible. It doesn't suggest anything new because it just suggests songs I already know that don't even fit the correct vibe of the playlists most of the time. The only good thing about Smart Shuffle is the fact that I can turn it off.
Thank you immensely for removing this. It was carp (not carp but the expletive word). Why did you need to put it in?
edit: I take that back. I got Morgan Wheelan - I DO NOT LIKE COUNTRY. Not all people from SK like country. I'm one of them. Please revert back to normal (how it was before you fouled it up). It wasn't broken, Why'd you need to fix it.
if only it wasn't forced upon me to use as a free user. try to get me to pay for premium by removing the basic function of shuffling? not gunna work. dislike smart shuffle so much.
It is forced upon premium users also!
Please get rid of this "feature." Every time it accidentally gets switched on I'm unable to turn off without switching to a whole new playlist. It'll get turned on, I'll look at the queue, and it'll still be on. I don't want a smart shuffle, an enhance playlist, or anything like that.
I like Smart Shuffle, but i have a MAJOR problem with it so i don't use it. It only plays the songs that were most recently added to my playlist. I have more than 1000 songs in my playlist and I want to shuffle through them all (the recommendations are great!) but Smart Shuffle only plays the ~50 songs that were added in the last 2 months. Until this is fixed, I won't use Smart Shuffle. This is consistent on all my Mac platforms (OSX, iOS).
Add a permanent way to disable smart shuffle in the settings, like with Canvas. Smart shuffle takes too long to load (my app is up to date) so you have to wait to switch between options. I have zero interest in smart shuffle no matter how proud spotify is of it. I just want to listen to the music I have chosen and the playlist I have made. If an option to disable smart shuffle is not added soon I will cancel my premium membership and switch to a different music app that isn't trying to be '"smart".
The addition of the smart shuffle feature has seriously reduced my enjoyment of your app. When i want to turn shuffle on, it takes a long time to load all the smart shuffle songs to the playlist, when I dont even want the smart shuffle, but i need to roll past it to get to the regular shuffle feature. Often i turn it on by accident and then random songs i dont want start playing. Having the option to remove this bad new addition would be good.
I've put the artists out of my playlist twice & it keeps coming back.
Android and Windows too, very annoying.
Please, just get rid of the smart shuffle. Being a premium member shouldn't be such a pain.
Just remove it do not work!! It**bleep** feature that no one asked for. If you would make it so that people can opt in to use it absolutely no one would do it cause its a feature that just sucks.
I keep trying to turn the smart shuffle off, changing it to the regular symbol for shuffle, and it keeps jumping back to smart shuffle. In addition, the playlist is now repeatedly doing the same four song in a row. This feature either needs to go away or the consumer needs a way turn this off completely.
This is the worst idea y'all have ever come up with. Let me listen to the same 6 artists I've been listening to since 2003 in peace, my god. And it keeps turning itself back on after I've turned it off, why am I even paying for Spotify premium at this point? I still can't listen to what I want when I want thanks to this terrible algorithm. Do you just hate your users or something?
Make it possible to toggle this **bleep** on or off, thanks.
Simply leave Spotify and convince others. Nobody at Spotify cares about users .. otherwise they would follow their own rules like someone wrote above and look at this long thread already. I changed. Happy to be back when this is gone, I really liked Spotify
Please remove this idi**ic feature already!!!! This is outrageous!!! Or doesn't work properly and it ruins the ability to toggle shuffle. It's been a year since this a$$ been introduced.
I am so frustrated with Smart Shuffle that I started looking at other music streaming services.
When jumping between playlists, Smart Shuffle starts out always playing the same songs repeatedly.
I miss the days when Spotify would recommend songs and mix them into the shuffle. Now, Smart Shuffle has taken over, and the same songs are on repeat. Please fix this insanity, it's a terribly frustrating feature!!"
