My Question or Issue

Liked songs are not syncing between the PC/Web apps and the iPhone/iPad apps.

Liked songs will sync between the PC and web apps.

Like songs will sync between the iPhone and iPad apps.

To test this I used an album where all the songs on the album were set to Liked.  This was the same on all the apps, PC, web, iPhone and iPad.

I then removed the Liked status for all songs on the PC app.  This change was reflected in the web app but not the iPhone or iPad app.

I cleared the cache for all apps which had no effect.

I uninstalled the app from the iPhone and then reinstalled it.  The songs on the iPhone were set to Liked.  I watched as the Liked song ticks came on for each song in the album.  This still did not reflect the Liked status on the PC app.

I removed the Liked status for one song on the iPhone app.  This was immediately reflected in the iPad app but not the PC or web apps.

Thanks,

Toby

Temporary manual fix on Windows:

  1. Make sure your Spotify app is turned off.
  2. Go inside %appdata%
  3. Go to folder "Local" and delete everything from except from folder Storage (thats where your downloaded songs are stored).
  4. Open your Spotify app.

Your playlist should be up to date. I managed to sync it this way.

i am having this issue again, the desktop app doesnt snyc all changes i made to my playlist on my phone, it is weird some playlists are synced completely and in some playlists nothing is synced, only the desktop app has this issue, i tried all the usual fixes, only a clean reinstall of the desktop app helped but only temporarily, now i tried a fix i read in another thread to this topic, i cant find it anymore, but someone suggested turning the proxy settings off (to "no proxy", i had "autodetect" activated before) and that seemed to help for now, the desktop app synced everything instantly after the app restart, i will check if this fixes the issue long term

Same here. All my other playlists seem to sync just fine, it's just the liked songs that don't sync even after several days, restarting the app, etc. The only way that I have gotten it to work is completely resetting it which of course removes my downloads... Issue happens mostly syncing from phone to Windows/macOS.

Facing the same issue as well

switching the proxy settings also only helped temporarily, the next time the issue reappeared, now my liked songs arent syncing either

i tried to log out and log in but my playlists on the same account dont sync 😞

Hey folks,

Just to confirm, is the issue always with the desktop app not reflecting the recent changes made on mobile or are the songs you've liked on desktop also not showing on mobile? Have you tried keeping the app open across all your devices when adding songs to see if it would update then?

It's worth checking if reloading the desktop app with Ctrl + Shift + R helps sync your Liked Songs count. Something else you can try flush your DNS cache:

Spoiler

Windows:

  1. In Windows’ search bar, type “Command Prompt” and run it as an administrator.
  2. Enter the following command: ipconfig /flushdns.

Mac:

  1. Open Terminal.app.
  2. Enter one of the following commands:
    - for newer OS versions: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
    - for older OS versions: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

Lastly, make sure your Firewall/antivirus isn't blocking Spotify in any way.

Let us know how it goes 👍

My Question or Issue:

The playlists on the desktop app are not updated to their current status when updated from the phone app. The playlist on my desktop are old versions.

the problem is just the desktop version, it doesnt show the changes i made on my phone, its not the other way around, when i have both apps open though the changes are synced immediately, also when i open a playlist on desktop that i made changes on on my phone its often getting synced too, but i cant open all my playlists every time i want to use the desktop app, i can see that because when i click "add to playlist"  on a song in the desktop app it shows that its not in those playlists but on my phone when i click on it it is in all the playlists i put it in, and its different playlists every time that arent getting synced and some that do, with my liked songs its also just sometimes, and with those it didnt help just opening the list, i already chatted with the support and we tried everything, flushing my DNS chache and deactivating my firewall did nothing and other methods also did nothing, there only were some things that helped sync but only for once, the next time i always had the issue again, those things that helped temporarily were: a clean reinstall; the support deleting all my offline files and then me reinstalling both apps; changing my proxy settings; those 3 methods each helped sync everything once, but the next time i had the issue again; also on a test account i didnt have the issue, only on my account which is massive, maybe thats a problem too

Hey there folks,

Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.

In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info to continue investigating this behavior further. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on the affected device.
  • The make/model and exact OS version of your devices.
  • Did you notice this happening when using the web player as well? Do playlists update there?
  • A list of all the troubleshooting you've tried so far.
  • Does this happen with the Liked Songs playlist only or do you notice this happens for all your playlists?
  • Do you use a VPN service? If yes, try switching it off. Remember Spotify doesn't officially support VPN.

Keep us in the loop!

  • Spotify Version: Spotify for Windows (64 bit) 1.2.61.443.gc51c574b
  • Make: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd., Model: Z97X-Gaming 7, OS: Windows 10 Pro, Version 22H2, Build 19045.5737
  • the web player syncs and updates everything, the issue only occurs with the desktop app
  • troubleshooting i tried that did nothing: reloading the app; "reset app data and restart"; logging out and back in; disabling my firewall and restarting; flushing my DNS and restarting; trying both the microsoft store version and the EXE version
  • troubleshooting that helped temporarily (just for one time): a clean reinstall; turning proxy settings from "autodetect" to "no proxy" and then clicking on "restart app"; the support deleting all my offline files and then reinstalling both the phone and the desktop app; adding a new song to the affected playlists (but with that the song order in the playlist is a little messed up)
  • it happens to all playlists, but for me its always just some of them, and often times different ones, and the liked songs sometimes too
  • i dont use any VPN

We've reopened the investigation with our tech team and will keep you folks posted here as soon as we have any updates 👍

worth a try for anybody else. nothing worked for me until i removed a liked song (on the device with extra songs) and it immediately synced to my desktop

so it has gotten a bit better for me, in the last days it didnt happen as often anymore, but still occasionally, it was also easier to make them sync manually than before, i also noticed that playlists that are in folders have the issue more often, i think bc they dont load unless i open the folders, bc in the last few days i could just click on add to playlist on a song and then i saw how all playlists first needed to load, they first appeared without the playlist cover and without the song count, but when they loaded they all got synced, but i also needed to open all the playlist folders to make the playlists in it to load, i also noticed that it does happen in the other direction too (meaning the phone doesnt sync the changes made on desktop) but not as often?, maybe I didn't notice before, but I still think the desktop app is the only problem, bc also the artists I listen to on desktop don't show up on my recently played artists very often

Hey, I can offer some insights, you can find 3-4 support chats on my account as well all about this issue which has appeared in the past 1-2 months for me. The latest recommendation was to use a test account but this was too much hassle as others were using it all the time.

Desktop W10 22H2 version is 1.2.61.443.gc51c574b, I think I've had several updates since the issue appeared.

Web player is syncing with phone, only desktop appears not to sync, both ways. I have songs that are on my phone but not on my desktop, but also songs on my desktop not appearing on my phone, it's two sides for me.

I've done everything except for reinstalling the OS, which I'm not planning on doing as it's my workstation and otherwise no issues. Reinstalling the app always syncs the liked songs again but the issue always returns after.

I am not sure if it's only liked songs. I am not using VPNs.

Hey! Thank you for the reply. This has been an issue for months and the only fix seems to be unistalling the desktop app every time. Do you have a better solution for now? It makes using spotify pretty pointless for me as I need cross device compatability. I have been using this for years so would be a shame to leave now over a small bug.

Only solution that has worked for me is removing a "liked" song from the device with "extra" liked songs. That seems to force the sync through.

I've been having this issue for a week and no fixes have worked! My ios app shows 2966 songs and my desktop app for windows shows 2961 songs. The last 5 songs are not appearing on my liked playlists and nothing is syncing the 2 devices together

someone suggested removing a liked song and then re-adding to the device that shows more songs. this is working for me! bit of an annoying fix but better than reinstalling stuff

Hi there folks,

Thanks for all the replies.

As previously mentioned, we've reopened this investigation and are looking into this once again. To that end, could you please provide us the following:

  • What devices does this happen on?
  • The exact makes, models and OS of all your affected devices
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.

This will greatly aid us in our investigation.

Keep us posted.
