Local files grey out & skip on the queue but still play if selected

Iphone 13

Operating System

iOS 16.5

I have started adding local files to my Spotify library some days ago, and I've been having this recurring problem in which the files grey out after some time & skip in the queue. But, if i turn off & then on the local files option, the local files just come back to normal.

Is there a permanent fix for this issue?

  • The issue you're experiencing with local files in your Spotify library greying out and skipping in the queue can be frustrating. While there isn't a guaranteed permanent fix for this problem, there are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:
  • Ensure that your local files meet Spotify's requirements: Make sure the files are in a supported format (MP3, M4P, MP4, etc.) and that they are not corrupted or damaged.
  • Check the file location: If you've moved or renamed the local files since adding them to your Spotify library, it can cause issues. Double-check that the files are in the original location and haven't been modified.
  • Verify the file permissions: Ensure that you have proper read and write permissions for the folder containing the local files. If the permissions are incorrect, it may cause Spotify to lose access to the files.
  • Restart Spotify: Sometimes, simply restarting the Spotify application can resolve temporary glitches. Close Spotify completely and relaunch it to see if the issue persists.
  • Disable any conflicting software: If you have antivirus or firewall software running, it's possible that it's interfering with Spotify's ability to access and play local files. Temporarily disable such software and check if the issue still occurs.
  • Reinstall Spotify: If the problem persists, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify. This process can help resolve any potential issues with the application itself.

Hey @jjcallem,

Thanks for reaching out.

As a first step, can you please let us know the following:

  • Your exact Spotify version.
  • Does this happen with all local files or just specific ones?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the app?
