My Question or Issue
Release Radar is getting worse by the week. Today there were only two songs by bands I follow, and the rest is either awful remixes, bands copying the names of more famous bands, or bands I've never heard of. I had to hide 28 songs and I'm sure they will probably just re-appear next week.
Does Spotify not understand we ONLY want releases from bands we follow? If I want to discover new bands I'll listen to Discover Weekly (which also just churns out the same songs week after week now). And if there aren't enough new release songs to fill the playlist then just make it shorter or include multiple songs from a new album.
Please Spotify, just make one playlist, just one, that only shows releases from your followed artists. It's not hard.
Spotify has become utterly useless for keeping up with your new music.
No my release radar gets flooded with different chapters of the same audio book of authors I have never listened too. The algorithm is definitely broken. I may get 5-10 pieces of music at all per week. The rest is just the audio book chapters.
Hi Joan
This answer was incredibly unhelpful and seems like an automated response as it contains the same information on spotifys ‘About reccomendations’ section.
please read the comments. We don’t want to hear fake artists using the names of people we actually listen to. We want to hear music from artists we like and listen to. Clearly your algorithm has changed and needs to be fixed. Maybe if your company stopped firing staff in order to give people like Joe Rogan a paycheck we would have a little bit more editorial oversight.
Reporting the same. Release Radar used to be amazing, but now it bypasses songs released by people I like only to give me songs from artists I don't know, stupid remixes, and old album tracks from random artists. Another nail in Spotify's coffin.
I actually created a website that analyzes my release radar playlist and creates a new playlist for me without the garbage tracks (ex. this one where it's just someone who tagged Mew so that their song would appear every week for the past 5 weeks on my release radar playlist).
It's been so nice to listen to my release radar playlist front to back. Feels like old times.
I submitted this to Spotify as an app for anyone to use. Hopefully they approve it, but I'm kind of doubtful (been several weeks now). If that happens I'll post it here.
Yes, RR seems to be totally broken. It used to be real helpful, but now mostly contains unknown artists with 189 listeners you’ve never listened to, nor put in a list. Yesterday Adrienne Lenker from Big Thief, both which I have listened A LOT to and put on several lists, released her new album and didn’t appear on my RR. This is just one example of many.
What happened?
This and the nonfunctioning shuffle function (from day one) is really destroying the user experience, and is just another evidence that Spotify isn’t about music, and never have been.
my release radar shows random stuff, while I miss important releases of artists that I follow and listen to
same here, even if I dislike an artist/song it keeps appearing in the next release radars...
I tried to remove all liked songs or to add specific genre songs in the liked songs - it seems this does not affect the release radar/discover weekly.
I don't know how it's with you guys, but my Release Radar seems to be getting better. This week I'm seeing almost only suggestions from (or with) bands that I'm actually following of listening. Hope this actually shows Spotify clearing up its act.
I have to admit, my playlist has really improved. Even though it is less quantity, the quality now matches my tastes much better
Same here. Still not great. And I kinda think Spotify is doing it on purpose. The like and unlike feature doesn't work either, because I've disliked an artist for months and stopped listening to him, but he still shows up in my RR list.
The latest problem I have with the RR list is that I start playing a song from the list and the next song is something completely different. It jumps out of the playlist. My queue is empty, in case anyone is wondering.
Sadly, this is getting worse with Spotify.
This week I have only 30 tracks in my RR, most of which are artists I neither listen nor follow. Last week there were over 160 songs ALL of whom I follow. Looks like I probably got lucky for a few months but this is terrible. What is the point of following an artist if it doesn't materialize as something useful to me?
I have to write again now sonce it is sunday today, my RR again changed today added few songs which i never kisten to that kind of music and erased 3 more songs that i listen so now i have 26 disliked songs which has nothing to do with my taste, only 4 songs left that is my taste. This happened in 3 days since friday midnight my RR wa mostly music i listen to. How can this happen? In 3 days how can my RR can change in a negative way by itself?
Hi Spotify
Lets be more clear and simple.
Why my favorite artists i follow gets deleted from my RR?
And why music i never listen is added on my RR?
Hi Joan, why my favorite artists i follow gets erased on my RR by Spotify and adds music i never listen to?
What happened with 'release radar'? Earlier, like a year, I always found unknown but amazing songs and discovered new artists to me. I loved that! I used and listened every week for years! but lately, gives me less good results.
But today, its sound like "hacked". I listen only dance-house, trance, EDM tracks.. but today the release radar was a HALF of rock music, and many pop, chillout etc. Why? I haven't changed my style, that I listen on Spotify..
17 of 30 songs was complete garbage... and I liked only 4. I mean, this statistic says all. (earlier, many times I liked at least 20!)
Blink 182 and Coldplay for a trance-listener? Really?? This is what I paid for?
