My Question or Issue

I have different music from youtube organized in folders for example:

Nirvana

Youtube mixed

Lil Peep

I have now all the files in the localFiles on my iPhone and on my Macbook.

What I want is a playlist with only the folder Nirvana, another playlist with the folder Youtube and another on with Lil Peep.

The problem is all the files are in the localFiles folder on Spotify and I would like to drag and drop the folder into a new Playlist so that my music is sorted and when I want to listen to the Lil Peep Playlist no Nirvana is playing for example.

I cannot figure out how to achieve this.

To search only for Nirvana in the localFiles and add all Songs into a playlist is simply not possible, because Nirvana is a own playlist but also in the youtube mix playlist and I want the songs to keep seperate.

Has anyone an idea on how to create playlists from local files but with folders I've stored locally on my Macbook? I want per folder a playlist with all the songs in it.

I hope I could explain this problem in a clear concise way.

Here a short youtube video on how I thought the problem should be addressed:

Kind regards,

Danielhok

Hi there @Danielhok,

Thanks for reaching out!

You'll need to add your legally obtained files to the playlists through the Spotify app itself, not from your MacBook. Here's how:

  1. Search for the Local files folder in Your Library.
  2. Select the songs you'd like to add to a playlist > right-click on one of them > Add to playlist. You can select multiple items with the help of Cmd / Shift keys.

Keep in mind that you can also sort & filter in the Local files folder in Your Library, just like with playlists. This should make adding the correct songs to the desired playlist easier. Another thing you can do is have only one folder as source for local files at a time: for example, you can select Nirvana as your source > add the songs to the appropriate playlist > choose another folder as your source.

Hope this helps.

This is not very intuitional. This is the solution. Wouldn't it make sense to overhaul how local files are working? For a easier management of local music?

I'm a long term spotify client but some songs often are only available on youtube and then I have to download them and add them to my local files.

The local file thing isn't very comfortable at the moment for me.

Is there any plan to make it more user friendly?

So far my question is answered, thank you for your input. 🙂

Kind regards,

Daniel
