Ads never play

I use Spotify every week day to and from work (and at work sometimes). Recently I’ve been using it with the integration with Waze. One thing that is annoying is when you hit Spotify from Waze, Spotify does the “the next 30 minutes are ad-free thanks to the following sponsor” but since it goes straight back to Waze there’s no ad to view. So it skips.

This makes sense. However, recently I’ve been getting the “watch this ad to receive 30 minutes...” and I always go and watch it. However, the ad never plays. It just skips and goes to my music. I want the 30 minutes free but it never plays an ad. Any idea why?
