My Question or Issue
While listening with AirPods, I can control song playback but cannot adjust volume using the watch. I have confirmed that with Apple's music or podcasts apps, I am still able to adjust the volume with the watch, this is only an issue with Spotify.

Hey there folks,
Thanks for posting in this thread and for the provided info.
Due to updates on iOS, Spotify users no longer can use their iPhone's volume controls to change the volume on connected speakers. Instead, please use the volume slider in the device menu.

Good news, it seems to be working again in version 8.9.26.509 that dropped today (3 April 2024)
La seule chose que j’ai trouvé convaincante c’est de lancer une cession de sport et de basculer vers la musique et là ça fonctionne avec la crown, pas mal galère … mais utile parfois
Just installed the update and reinstalled the app on the apple watch, just to be sure.
The crown volume control is working now on the version 8.9.26.509
Funny how it works with Apple Music and not on Spotify. Does Apple believe in the butterfly effect? I moved away from their AirPods due to poor support. What’s next?
After updating to iOS 17.5 and WatchOS 10.5, I'm no longer able to control volume using the crown on my Apple Watch. The same issue happened on iOS 17.4, but it got fixed about a month ago. Interestingly, this time I get haptic feedback when using the crown, but the volume doesn't actually change. In the previous issue on iOS 17.4, there wasn't even haptic feedback.
Is anybody experiencing the same issue or is it just me?
Same here iOS 17.5 no volume control using hardware buttons on the iPhone 😔
Ik heb i watch 6 maar bij spotfy doet de crwon het niet met de volume hoog laag de laatste update
8.9.38
Yeah, it broke with the iOS 17.5 / watchOS 10.5 release.
I suspect what happens is iOS is updated and this then breaks something on Spotify's side which they have to patch and release to get it working. It seems to be a pattern that is showing up.
In the bottom right hand corner of the Spotify app on the Apple Watch is an icon for device it’s being used/played on. Click on it so you switch it to the Apple Watch, and it should rectify the issue. It did for myself as I was experiencing the exact same issue.
I have i watch 6 but on spotify the crwon does not work with the volume high low the last update

Here’s a solution to volume adjustment via Apple Watch for Spotify. On the Home Screen swipe up on Apple Watch and click on the ear icon at the bottom click on the volume bar the adjust volume using Digital Crown on Apple warch. Enjoy! Please share or pin! 😊
That works if your earphones are connected to the Apple Watch.
I have my pods connected to my phone and use my AW as a remote to the phone (which is usually in a bag when running).
seems it's happened again
Same here, confirmed with apple.
Still an issue on iOS 17.5.1, WatchOS 10.5 and Spotify v8.9.40.506
I did find a few workarounds for this issue.
While spotify is playing, you can open apple music and tap on the little icon on the top right. I guess that is some kind of "currently playing" thing? I don't use Apple music at all. When you are on that screen, you can use the crown to change the volume.
The other way of navigating around this issue is to start up the "Now Playing" app on the Apple Watch, while spotify is playing, ofcourse. You can then, again, use the crown to change the volume.
You can put the apple music shortcut to your complications for easy access. There is no shortcut for "Now Playing" for the complications. You can also add apple music and/or now playing in the control centre for quick access.
The third option is, sadly, to just remove spotify from Apple Watch. Spotify will still work on your phone and the apple watch will just start up the now playing app in the foreground to display what is playing. You can switch songs, adjust the volume, but you lose the option to like a song. You will also not be able to see the playlist and pick what you want to play.
To me, for now, just removing spotify from the watch is good enough. I just need to change the volume and skip a song without having to get my phone out of my pocket, or my bag.
I have removed the Spotify app from my watch too. I really only need the volume and next/previous which the Now Playing app gives me.
I tried this solution below and it works but with worse audio quality on my Watch SE.I guess it's because you directy streaming via Apple Watch.
That's why it's not good solution for me.

My Question or Issue
This problem hasn't always existed, but currently I cannot get my Apple Watch's digital crown to adjust the volume when I play music through Spotify on my iPhone and I am using the Watch Spotify app's music controls. It looks on the watch like the volume is being adjusted as I turn the crown (I see the volume bar appear and increase or decrease), but the volume does not actually change. I can use other controls on the watch such as pause/play and skip, but not volume change. I have tried turning both the watch and the iPhone off and on again, deleting the Spotify app from the watch and re-installing, and nothing fixes the problem. The iOS software on both devices is up to date. Is this problem un-solvable?
I bought an Apple watch for the sole reason of being able to control Spotify, especially volume, when I'm teaching yoga. It doesn't work. It actually did work for a few weeks when the watch was new, albeit haltingly and intermittently. Now it doesn't work at all. So I tried other apps, like Audible: no problem. I tried "clean installs" of the app. No effect. Please fix this, Spotify.
iOS: 17.5.1
watch version: 10.5
