Background App Refresh?

I'm not even sure this is a background app refresh issue but here it is. I have the latest version of spotify (3.4.0) running on the latest iOS version on an iPhone 5S. This has been an issue for quite a while now. If I stop using the app for a while (appx an hour or more), the app does not remember where it left off and it seems as though it is restarting, as it shows me the 'Now' screen (whether I'm in online or offline mode) and doesn't pick up where I left off the last song. Note that this happens even if I have not quit the app, and I have background refresh enabled in the settings. It's extremely annoying to have to keep navigating back to the playlist I was on every time I stop using the app for a while. Is there a setting or something that should be enabled?
