For as long as I am using Spotify for listening to podcasts the procedure was as following: I download a bunch of podcasts, go to "Your Library" -> "Your Episodes" and I was able to listen to the podcasts one after the other. One podcast was finished, the next would start.
Since a few days things look like this: I go to "Your Library" -> "Your Episodes" and I play the first podcast. Once it's over a random song from a random playlist is played. I have to open the app, close the song, open my episodes and start the next podcast.
I have not changed any settings, so I am guessing this is caused by a recent update. Any hints on how to solve this issue are highly appreciated.
Hey there @tom19991,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
First up, we suggest that you check the queue to see if there are some songs there ready to play. If so, you can remove them by tapping on Clear queue or remove them one by one.
If that's not the case, would you mind checking if this happens on other devices as well? Also, sending us a short screen recording of this behavior would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Hello Eni
thanks for answering my question.
I have the free version of Spotify, so I don't have the "queue" button and I cannot delete the queue.
However, it was possible to simply listen to one podcast episode after the other, without "interruption".
Attached is the video.
I tried using spotify via desktop (through the browser), and I don't get the same issue. Here one episode finishes, and the next one starts..
Thanks for your help.
Hey @tom19991,
Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.
Since it's working properly on the desktop version of the app, it could be related to the limitations of the free version. To make sure of this, it would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your iPhone - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists.
Also, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.
We'll be on the lookout for your response.
Someone else log in on my phone is not feasible / possible.
There should not be a limitation for the free plan, because the issue only started 4-5 days ago, as I mentioned in the first post. It worked perfectly fine for the last 5+ years.
The version of the app is: 8.9.90.84
Thanks for the info @tom19991!
We've forwarded the details to our tech folks who'll investigate further. We'll keep you posted as soon as we have any new info to share, stay tuned!
In the meantime, make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.
Cheers 🤘
Just a quick update. With version 8.9.94.418 the issue seems to be fixed. I have no more problems.

My Question or Issue
This has just started to happen on Feb 7 or 8 2025 and just to be clear that I DO NOT HAVE AUTO PLAY ON as I've seen others who post similar issues and the first they say is that and basically never follow back up or read any replies that have the issue where that doesn't work. With that said here is the exact scenario where my issue has repeated every time without AUTOPLAY. I typically use Spotify to listen to podcasts from my iPhone through an Alexa echo speaker. Now after I listen to 2 or 3 episodes back to back after selecting the episode from the series episode list it just automatically switches to recommended music and won’t let me select going back. Any time I click play on another episode if I do that it just starts another random recommended song that usually I will hate. Only way to fix this is to disconnect from the speaker so it back to the iPhone select the episode and reconnect it to the Alexa speaker and repeat the process every time 2-3 episodes.
Hey there @IscariotPaladin,
Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community.
Just to be on the same page, when you listen to podcast episodes on your Alexa speaker and they finish, does recommended music start playing? Also, if you select a new episode after that, does random music start playing instead of the episode? If this is what's happening, could you let us know if it only occurs when connected to the speaker, or does it also happen when you're streaming directly on your iPhone?
On another note, we'd recommend trying to unlink and relink the Spotify skill on Alexa and ensuring that your Alexa's software is up to date with any pending updates.
It's also worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.
However, if the issue persists, would you mind sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be waiting for your reply.
@eni
“Just to be on the same page, when you listen to podcast episodes on your Alexa speaker and they finish, does recommended music start playing?”
While playing from my phone but connected via Bluetooth to the speaker yes after 2 or 3 episodes.
“Also, if you select a new episode after that, does random music start playing instead of the episode? If this is what's happening, could you let us know if it only occurs when connected to the speaker, or does it also happen when you're streaming directly on your iPhone? “
Correct when it happens if I try and select anything while it’s still connected to the speaker it will play a new random recommended song. I have to disconnect from the speaker for the app on my phone to work correctly.

“On another note, we'd recommend trying to unlink and relink the Spotify skill on Alexa and ensuring that your Alexa's software is up to date with any pending updates. “
This was the first thing I did to try to fix the issue. The software was up to date and unlink and relinking did not work.
“It's also worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. “
This was the second thing I tried and still did not resolve the issue.
Thanks for the detailed reply, @IscariotPaladin!
Just to confirm, does this only occur when you're connected to an external speaker or also when listening directly on the iPhone? Could you check if the issue persists on another device or on the desktop app / Web Player?
Let us know how it goes 👍
The issue as described in my original post is back. I use the newest version of the app: 9.0.16.583.
all other parameters are the same as a few months ago.
As I said before this happens when I use the app from my phone with it being connected to the Alexa echo dot speaker

My Question or Issue
i use Spotify to cast children’s bed time podcasts to my sons Google home.
in the last day or two it has decided that the best thing to play after a cocomelon story ends is Kendrick Lamar, lady Gaga, sza, etc.
I have turned off auto play and it still plays. I picked a playlist and it still switches to explicit music when the podcast finishes.
sometimes I can’t even get the podcast to play if I am casting, I hit play on a cocomelon podcast and it blasts DNA by kdot. If I play it on my iPhone it will usually play the podcast but then it will switch back to explicit music when it’s over. This is totally nuts and it means I need to stop using Spotify and which is a bummer because they have the best kids content.
Hi there folks,
Thank you for all the replies.
We're once again investigating this further. To that end, please provide us the following info if you haven't already:
We'll keep you posted on any updates as soon as we have them.
Cheers!
From the sound of it I think the devs or the bug team might want to look into the coding for the Branch of the iOS code in the section where it deals with airplays. Since this person is reporting the same thing except this time on the google home and really the only common factor is that.
For me the bug is gone since last week. There was an update.
Unfortunately the bug is still happening to me even after the update.

My Question or Issue
Recently whenever I play a podcast on Spotify and play it over my Google speaker, it will suddenly switch to a random song. One week it’ll be something like Bruno Mars constantly and then the next it’ll be Chappel Roan. I’m using the podcast for soothing podcasts for my kids to fall asleep too and then it’s blaring out loud music. It’s not just my phone, it’s my husbands too. Has anyone else had this? It’s been going on for about a month and it’s driving us mad!
Hey again folks,
Thanks for posting in the thread and for sharing your details!
We've got an update from the tech team that this should be fixed. Could you let us know in case things are working for you as they should?
If the issue persists, it would be very helpful if you could share the requested info by @Joan here in case you've not done so already.
We'll be on the lookout 🙂
