My Question or Issue
Currently, I am using the lastest version of the Spotify on iOS which is 8.7.62. The problem is that when I skip forward a song and get back to that song right after, the time slider does not start from zero, instead it continues from the time I skipped the song. For example, I listen to a song which is 3 mins and at the 45th second of the song I skip forward to the next song and after that I imediately get back to the former song. As a result, the time slider on the lock screen continues from the 45th second although the song starts from the beginning. When the time slide bar is finished, it remains at the end point and the song continues to play to the end of the song without any problem.
Hey @Brkn,
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Community.
Can you let us know if you've already tried to log out > restart your device > log back in?
It sounds like there are cached files interfering with the app's performance and it is a good idea to clear them following this steps.
We'd also recommend giving this a try on a different network as well, for example you can ask a family member to start a hotspot for you and use that network and see if the app behaves the same way.
If the above tactics don't work, please let us know if it happens on all your songs and if it persists when you're using the app on a different device.
Let us know how things work out, we'll be keeping an eye out for your reply.
Hey @Lyubka,
Thanks for your reply.
I tried "log out > restart your device > log back in", "clearing the cached files", and "different network" recommendations. Yet, none of these worked, it is still the same. I cannot try it on another iOS device because there is no one around me who uses an iPhone or iPad. But, other than my phone I use the Spotify app on my Windows laptop and I can say that there is no problem in the Windows app.
Hey @Brkn,
Thanks for the reply.
Could you check if Spotify is given the permission to run in the background on your iOS devices? Here is how to do that. Also make sure to not have any battery optimizing apps or the energy saving mode turned on.
If the issue persists afterwards, we'd need a screen recording of it to fully understand what is going on on your end.
Keep us posted,
Cheers!
Hey @Dian,
I controlled that if I gave permission to run in the background to the Spotify or not, and I saw that Spotify has permission to run in the background. Plus, I do not use any battery optimizing apps or energy saving mode. So, I will show you a screen record of the issue, but the video exceeds the 5 MB limit so I uploaded it to YouTube as private . Yet, since screen recording stops when I lock the screen, I will show you the problem in the notification center. The same problem happens there also. Here is the link to the video: https://youtu.be/vsFGWacGvIM
Hi there @Brkn,
Thanks for the post and the video.
We tried to reproduce this on our end on several iOS devices, but the song starts from 0:00 if you skip back.
It could be something caused by the phone itself.
Can you let us know if the previous song starts from 0:00 if you let the next song play form about 10 seconds before you skip to previous?
Cheers.
Hey Alex,
I tried what you said. If I let next song to play about 10 seconds and go back to the previous song, the previous song starts from 0:00. The problem occurs only if I go back to the previous song immediately. By the way, I updated my phone to the iOS 16.0 and the situation is the same.
Hi @Brkn,
Thanks for your feedback so far.
We've forwarded your findings to our tech folks who'll look into this. While we're unable to provide an exact timeline for a fix at this moment, rest assured this will remain on our radar, so in the meantime make sure to always keep the app up to date.
Take care!
