Multiple control

I am playing Spotify off my iPad which is plugged in and want to use my iPhone as a remote to control volume, pause/play or skipping songs. On occasion it will work to pause/play the music but I’m wanting control for the volume. Is there something I need to change or how can I get my devices to talk to each other?

Sorry, it is impossible to control volume between mobile devices.
