My Question or Issue

Hi there,

When I try to ask Siri to 'play liked songs on Spotify' it says "now playing liked songs" and then used to play them. However, instead of playing them it now says the same "now playing" message but subsequently says ...  "sorry you'll need to continue in Spotify" and does nothing. If I manually select my liked songs they play.

Any ideas why/how to fix ..

n.b. Siri will still allow me to select / play individual tracks/albums using my voice.

Many thanks

Hi there @tk007b,

Thanks for reaching out!

Just to make sure we're on the same page, the issue only happens when asking Siri to play Liked Songs, while voice commands for specific tracks/albums and manual playback in Spotify still work normally, is that right?

We'd recommend trying the following steps to see if they help:

  1. Go to Settings → Siri & Search → Spotify and make sure Siri access is enabled. Check if there's a Default Music App option there as well and select Spotify if there is.
  2. Disable and re-enable Spotify's Siri integration.
  3. Clear the app's cache.
  4. Test whether the same behavior occurs when using slightly different commands, for example:
    • “Shuffle my Liked Songs on Spotify”
    • “Play my favorites on Spotify”

Since you're facing some difficulties and inconsistencies while using the voice commands with Spotify, we'd also recommend reaching out to Apple directly to see if there have been any changes from their end that might be causing this behaviour.

Hi Dessi,

Thanks for responding. Yes, you understand correctly. It seems to do everything except deal with my liked songs via Siri. For example:

  • “Play my favourites on Spotify” - WORKS
  • “Shuffle my Liked Songs on Spotify” - Here's you liked songs on shuffle on Spotify ... ... .. Sorry you need to continue on Spotify.  (and then no music plays), so it is about to listen to me and then a follow up message comes up that stops it from working.
  • "Hey Siri - Play Queen on Spotify" - Works
  • ***************** HANG ON ****************

Oh, I think I may have found a clue .. when I say "Hey Siri - Play liked songs", my iPhone display comes up with a splash screen for "Apple Music 1" . Therefore it looks like the command is activating Apple Music Player, hence the message please continue on Spotify.

If I am more explicit and say "Hey Siri, play liked songs on Spotify", it brings up a song cover from my Spotify liked songs list and no longer brings up the Apple Music splash screen but still goes wrong and says the same "Please continue in Spotify " error message without playing anything.

It's failing because the command is no longer going to Spotify alone and seems to be going to Spotify AND Apple Music

Any ideas on how to resolve this ?

Many thanks

Hey @tk007b,

Thanks for checking and for all the info you provided!

That really seems to be the case, you're right. If the Default Music App option in your device's settings, which I mentioned in my previous post, doesn't do the trick, it might be worth checking with Apple Support. We don't really have all the resources and expertise about Apple devices and settings, so we'd definitely recommend reaching out to them to get some info.

Keep us posted on how it goes.
