Podcasts looping/repeating every second or two when Google Casting from Spotify on iOS

Podcasts looping/repeating every second or two when Google Casting from Spotify on iOS

I'm having a repeated issue where, when I'm playing podcasts through Google Cast via Spotify, the podcasts just start looping and repeat constantly. This is via iOS.

It resolves itself if I quit the Spotify app (and it's already casting to the speakers) - this is the only way I can continue listening without it looping (seems like an issue between iOS and Spotify fighting over / keeping track of the point in time the podcast is up to).

Something is happening with my Spotify app over recent years, as this keeps happening repeatedly - and just with podcasts only - not with music. I am able to permanently resolve the issue by reinstalling the app, or clearing the Spotify app cache - however it seems to re-emerge within a few days.

This doesn't happen to my partner (same phone, same account) - interestingly who's casting UI is strangely different.

Please can you advise if this is a known bug, and/or what is the fix?

Just to throw my hat in the ring, I've also been having this exact problem for quite a while. Just podcasts, not music. I'm on a Pixel 7.

Hello,

I have been facing the same iOS > Spotify > Google Home speakers issue for months. What is the resolution?

Thank you

My husband and I are having the same issue casting to our Google Home Mini speaker. We both have Android phones (Galaxy S25 Ultras).

The issue occurs for me when I cast to the speaker using the speaker icon in the Spotify app, then play podcasts from Home > Podcasts tab > Following tab. I do not queue them, I just play straight from the feed. The episode starts, then repeatedly skips back a few seconds and plays, creating a stuttering loop.

The problem resolves itself temporarily when I close the app (three lines at the bottom of the screen, swipe the app to close). The app continues to cast audio to the speaker even though it has been closed, but the looping stops and does not occur when I open the app back up, and it does not happen when I change episodes. It only starts up again the next time I connect to that speaker (usually the next day, I listen most mornings while showering).

I have not tried opening an episode directly from the podcast's page, I will try that and see if that helps. I just wanted to chime in to say I am experiencing the problem as well.

Spotify app version 9.0.62.622

Google Home app version 3.35.55.0

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm having the exact same issue described above, including the troubleshooting results and the workaround of going to the podcast page to play. Pixel 5, casting to various Google Home devices.

If it's a helpful data point, I started noticing this around the same time podcasts started having accompanying video, so I wonder if it has something to do with that rollout. Would explain why it's an issue unique to podcasts vs music or audiobooks.

I’m also having the same issue.

Any update? The issue is still continuing.

Yep! Spotify - what are you doing?!

Happening here casting to firestick... bit disappointing that staff have not chimed in since May.. even a "tech team is still looking into it" to show that this is even being read and acknowledging that it's a widespread issue. I've seen pods where people are commenting that the audio quality is bad when this is the only issue I'm seeing and I think a lot of people will draw that conclusion instead of seeking a cause/solution. Honestly it makes me not want to use the platform because playing from Your Episodes is the way I listen to my podcasts and they just play through the ones I have added. It ruins the immersion to have to manually access them and I'm not always able to get to my device to select something else.

Glad I found this thread!  I am having the same issue.  It only happens when playing podcasts from a playlist.

Samen issue when casting from my pixel 8a

I'm also having this problem on Samsung galaxy s25.

Can we please get an update on this from the tech team? This should be marked as a known Ongoing Issue - as you can see from the many people commenting on and liking this post who are also having issues, it's clearly an issue that needs fixing by Spotify.

This type of service for paying customers isn't acceptable.

I have the same issue when casting podcasts to my Google Home speakers from Spotify on my Android phone.

I typically add a bunch of episodes from various podcasts to a downloaded playlist, then play from there. Based on this and the rest of the comments in the thread, it sounds to me like the issue is casting podcasts from a playlist rather than each podcast's page, whether it's a regular playlist, "Your Episodes", or the play queue. Additionally, it sounds like the issue is originating from the mobile versions of the app, since killing the mobile app or disconnecting the mobile device from Wi-Fi has, apparently, temporarily fixed the issue for various people.

Looking forward to a fix for this one. Between this and the other issues I'm experiencing trying to cast Spotify, I've been wondering why I'm paying for a service this troubled.

Hey folks,

Just wanted to pop in and let you know that this is still on our tech team's radar. While we're unable to provide an exact ETA for a fix at the moment, rest assured we'll keep you posted as soon as we have any updates to share.

Cheers 🤘
