Spotify 1.7.0 crashing on sync

Solved!

Spotify 1.7.0 crashing on sync

Just added some new local files to my starred playlist yesterday, and app was crashing when I tried to sync (about 12 songs?)

Then today the same was happening, reinstalled the app, synced all the spotify tracks fine, then tried to sync the local files (approx 150), it made it until the last 60 before crashing. Since then it syncs a couple at a time, before crashing up until the last ~45, and now it crashes immediately upon opening the app.

Any ideas/help would be appreciated!

Description
The Spotify app crashes within 5 seconds of launching. It was working fine (even after updating) until I began to use the "Browse" tab. Ever since I used the Browse tab, the app will crash no matter what I do...play music, sync tracks, or do nothing at except open the app. It always crashes.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

1. First I did this

I first closed and then reopened the app

2. Then I did that

Then when that didn't work I turned my phone off and then back on

3. I also did this

When that didn't work I did a soft reset

4. then this

When that didn't work, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app

5. then this

After reinstalling the app, it worked normally for a little while. There were no crashes and I was able to sync around 200 tracks (I had 500 more to go though). But then I changed the settings to my normal preferences: Crossfade at 10.5 seconds, entered my Last.fm details, and changed the music quality to Extreme for both streaming and syncing, and that's when the crashes started again.

6. and finally, this

I again uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Immediately it began crashing at launch every time I tried to use it.

What I expected to happen

I expected the app to work as normal, without crashing

What actually happened

The crashes didn't stop

Is your device jailbroken?

Yes, but I want to add that I'm not using any tweak that affects Spotify. I also booted my phone into safe mode (basically means my phone reverted to not being jailbroken) and the problem still exists. Even in safe mode Spotify crashed consistently.

Approximately how many playlists do you have?

I have around 100-150 playlists. Only three of those playlist are synced for offline use.

I am having this exact same problem. Since the 9/10 update the app crashes everytime I try to open it. I have tried a soft reboot a couple of times and this did not solve the problem. This update clearly broke something.

Hi @user-removed Have you tried a complete clean reinstallation?

I also want to add that one of the beautiful things about having a jailbroken iPhone is the ability to install previous versions of an app. I've deleted the current Spotify update, and reverted back to version 1.6.0 ...I'm having no problems whatsoever. Zero crashes.

I'm going to start adopting the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra when it comes to updating apps. I'm only going to update if there's some huge drastic change (ie a major redesign).

I want to chime in that I am having the exact same issues - and have followed the same steps - as batman. This update is literally unusable, as the app crashes within 5 seconds of opening.

@Meredith

The app is working for me after a clean installation. However a clean installation is a completely unacceptable solution since it loses all the downloaded tracks and any settings. You have to come up with a better solution for resolving problems that does not involve deleting the app.

I have the same problem.

I re-installed the app and then that problem looked like solved. But when I restarted (closed and then opened) the app, the problem was back again.

Please, fix it.

Just downloaded latest spotify version (1.7.0) The app crashs on launch. Tried all the steps the eliminate the problem, still reoccurring !

Hi there welcome to the community 🙂

Description

App crashing at startup after less than 3 seconds open.

1. First I did this

Closed app & reopened, restarted phone with on/off & tried app, then soft reset phone & tried app but all resulted in almost instant crash.

2. Then I did that

did a clean reinstall of the app and resynced but then after a while app started crashing

3. I also did this

restored by my phone from a back up but when resyncing the app started crashing again

4. then this

when on 3rd or 4th resync I noticed the app was crashing when syncing a particular song so removing the song from the playlist allowed sync to continue without crash. This song had been on my phone for the last 3 years so isn't problematic/

5. then this

another song started causing a crash and I managed to spot the song again and removing allowed sync. As above, the song had been on that offline playlist a long time and wasn't the problem itself.

6. and finally, this

now stuck as the app crashes whilst still starting up before it starts syncing.

What I expected to happen

the app to not crash continuously

What actually happened

the app crashes continuously

Hello, today is september 11, 2014. I applied the latest update to the Spotify app and it has been constantly crashing.

I have a premium account. Since I have downloaded this update, I have not been able to access Spotify. The app begins to load and immediately crashes. IOS 7.1.2

Hi there! The best course of action here would be to try a clean reinstallation of the application.

Give this a shot and let us know if it works. Cheers!
