Just added some new local files to my starred playlist yesterday, and app was crashing when I tried to sync (about 12 songs?)
Then today the same was happening, reinstalled the app, synced all the spotify tracks fine, then tried to sync the local files (approx 150), it made it until the last 60 before crashing. Since then it syncs a couple at a time, before crashing up until the last ~45, and now it crashes immediately upon opening the app.
Any ideas/help would be appreciated!

I am having this exact same problem. Since the 9/10 update the app crashes everytime I try to open it. I have tried a soft reboot a couple of times and this did not solve the problem. This update clearly broke something.
Hi @user-removed Have you tried a complete clean reinstallation?
I want to chime in that I am having the exact same issues - and have followed the same steps - as batman. This update is literally unusable, as the app crashes within 5 seconds of opening.
Description
The Spotify app crashes within 5 seconds of launching. This began as soon as I updated to 1.7.0.
A more detailed description, using numbered steps
1. I first closed and then reopened the app
2. Then when that didn't work I turned my phone off and then back on
3. When that didn't work I did a soft reset
4.When that didn't work, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app
5. After reinstalling the app, nothing changed. It still crashed to the home screen within 5 seconds.
6. I again uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Immediately it began crashing at launch every time I tried to use it.

@Meredith
The app is working for me after a clean installation. However a clean installation is a completely unacceptable solution since it loses all the downloaded tracks and any settings. You have to come up with a better solution for resolving problems that does not involve deleting the app.
I have the same problem.
I re-installed the app and then that problem looked like solved. But when I restarted (closed and then opened) the app, the problem was back again.
Please, fix it.

Description
App crashing at startup after less than 3 seconds open.
1. First I did this
Closed app & reopened, restarted phone with on/off & tried app, then soft reset phone & tried app but all resulted in almost instant crash.
2. Then I did that
did a clean reinstall of the app and resynced but then after a while app started crashing
3. I also did this
restored by my phone from a back up but when resyncing the app started crashing again
4. then this
when on 3rd or 4th resync I noticed the app was crashing when syncing a particular song so removing the song from the playlist allowed sync to continue without crash. This song had been on my phone for the last 3 years so isn't problematic/
5. then this
another song started causing a crash and I managed to spot the song again and removing allowed sync. As above, the song had been on that offline playlist a long time and wasn't the problem itself.
6. and finally, this
now stuck as the app crashes whilst still starting up before it starts syncing.
What I expected to happen
the app to not crash continuously
What actually happened
the app crashes continuously
My iPad/iPhone model
iPhone 5 32GB
Device’s Operating System
have tried the steps above with iOS 7 and iOS 8 installed both result in the same timeline. Currently on iOS 8

Hi there! The best course of action here would be to try a clean reinstallation of the application.
Give this a shot and let us know if it works. Cheers!
