Spotify Connect is NOT working for volume controlling

My Question or Issue

Dear community, and spotify,

I think spotify connect is not working for volume controlling.

I have been using spotify with other speakers and web players using spotify sdks, and my devices are appearing correctly to the spotify app of my iphone. However, I can't control the volume for the connected devices from spotify app of my phone.

About 2 weeks ago, it was working and I could control the volume through my phone, but it suddenly broken without any noticing.

Please make it clear if this is my own problem or spotify's internal issue.

Somebody please help me to solve this issue...

Thanks.

fixed with IOS 17.3 update

I’m on iOS 17.3 as well and the issue is still present.

iPhone 15 Pro

iOS 17.3

Spotify 8.9.8.487

I had the same issue. My iPhone was connected to a portable speaker in the background (I wasn’t  listening via that speaker). My iPhone was also connected to my MacBook and controlling Spotify from my iPhone - but I couldn’t control the volume using my iPhone volume buttons. To fix this I simply disconnected my iPhone from the Bluetooth speaker and I was immediately able to control the volume on my MacBook with the volume buttons on my iPhone. So try disconnecting from other Bluetooth speakers (or maybe other devices too?) and see if that helps.

Not mine..

And just 1 day later, after saying the downloading the new iOS fixed the issue, it doesn't work again. Please fix this, Spotify! 😞

EDIT: Editing this post 5 minutes later to say it's working again. All I did was change the playlist. Why would that do anything? Idk.

It's maddening that Spotify still has not fixed this issue.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the cooperation and for the details.

The tech team has let us know that this issue should be fixed with the new Spotify version. Could you make sure you've updated the app? If you're connected to a device, you're running the latest version, but the Hardware Buttons are still not working, please let us know here.

Cheers 🙂

Hi Ivelina. Unfortunately the hardware buttons on my phone still aren't working with the latest update when I connect to Spotify on my computer. The issue persists.

Hi, chiming in to say this issue still not fixed with latest version of Spotify.  iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17.3 and Spotify version 8.9.10 that was last updated 5 days ago.  Volume rocker on phone works if listening to bluetooth devices or AirPods but it does NOT work if I'm using Spotify Connect to broadcast to Sonos speakers or Alexa echo speakers.  Been having this issue for past few months (maybe closer to a year now).

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies and for the info shared.

@r8tedR, in this case, would you mind sending us the make and models of the speakers in which you notice this issue continues? That way, we can forward this important info to our tech team.

We'll be on the lookout!

Had the same issue when using Spotify connect on my Denon AVR. What seems to have fixed the issue is doing a hard reset of the avr (hold power button). Just did it though, will update if anything changes.

I'm STILL having this same problem, although it's intermittent.  When I close the app and restart, the volume buttons work again.  But then after about 30 minutes, and especially my screen shuts off, the volume buttons stop working to control the volume on my speaker connected with Spotify Connect.

Why hasn't this been fixed?!

My Question or Issue

Adjusting volume using the Spotify app when music is playing on my Sonos speakers has become an adventure. Here is what happens frequently (not all the time, but sometimes it is even worse and occasionally it pegged the volume to the max suddenly).

1. In iOS Spotify app, tap the now playing bar at the bottom while a song is playing to bring up the panel showing the artwork etc.

2. Tap the speaker in the lower left corner to bring up the Current Device panel with volume control slider at the bottom.

3. Drag the slider right or left to try to adjust the volume up or down.

What happens: the slider drags with my finger then when I let go, it reverts to where it was or moves by itself to a different volume setting. Sometimes the volume cannot be adjusted at all using this method. I am including a screen capture video.

Workarounds to setting the volume are not always reliable, but they include: adjusting volume using side buttons on iPhone, or using the Sonos app.

I’m now currently having this issue and it was working earlier today then suddenly stopped and im on an IPhone 14 trying to connect to an Alexa device, my buttons won’t turn the volume up or down and I have closed the Spotify app and reopened without any success

(Better advice for first stage of fault finding is to (1) force close iOS app used as the remote control & if that doesn't restore remote volume control, (2)  force close the app on the device playing the music. If that doesn't work, reboot both devices, start Spotify playing on the device driving the speakers(& make sure the device is connected to the local network) and then confirm iPhone is connected to same network and then  open Spotify. If iPhone still can't control Volume, options are (a) accept that Spotify is buggy and just suck it up or (b) give Spotify some useful customer feedback by cancelling your premium subscription and trying another music streaming provider)

Prague:  Why advise  network connection tests when Op is clearly able to use their iPhone as a remote control to control the tracks being played on the device sending audio to the speakers?

Clearly the two devices are connected on the same network. Are you suggesting that the  networking protocol is buggier than Spotify's poorly designed buggy, crappy UI software? Ie that the international standards and implementation of the universal networking protocol is so buggy that it can pass some data between (presumably) Spotify running on two devices but not other data.

I'm sure you're trying to help but your advice may have been written by ChatGPT.

I've been having this issue on and off for no apparent reason for over 5 years. lol can't change volume when I'm sitting on my deck playing through my tablet but I can turn on Spotify in my car when I'm 50 km from home and change the volume  and track my wife is playing back at home.

Spotify either can't solve this problem or won't because they don't give a s....

I've experienced  this issue off and on for at least 5 years and although it may sometimes be due to OS or app updates, it often occurs during the same listening session after I've minimised the Spotify app (eg to browse a website, make a call, send a text message etc).    Often   - but not always force closing and restarting the app resolves the issue.  Blame it on Spotify, sloppy coding and sloppy maintenance (eg not keeping on top of changes to underlying OS / firmware.

lol, this is the 3rd reply I've posted today on this thread and I've been required to compete a captcha each time. They can't even be bothered to  code their own website  not to be a pain in the ass and create unnecessary frustration.

Well I think version 8.9.16.556 for iOS has broken it totally now. Volume control from my Apple Watch is completely non-functional now.

Great work, Spotify.

This issue is now worse than it was just a few days ago.  Now when I reboot the spotify app, it's not even working to have this physical volume button function work again. Whatever Spotify changed actually made this issue WORSE.  So maddening.

Version 8.9.16.556.  Most recent iOS.  Speaker is a AudioPro C10 MKII.

Attached is a screenshot showing what it looks like when I press the volume button on the phone when Spotify Connect is working normally so that the physical volume buttons on the phone can control the volume on the speaker.  You can see the image in the center showing the volume.  But with the latest update, this only works about 10% of the time I'm playing music.  When it's not working, even when Spotify Connect is playing music to my speaker, pressing the physical volume buttons doesn't change the music volume at all, it only changes the phone's ringer volume, and that image in the center of the screen doesn't show up.

I'm very close to just abandoning Spotify altogether for another service, because this is just unacceptable.

I pay for this service and I cannot control the volume of the songs from my phone on my pc, it was working literally 30 minutes ago…My device name would pop up on my phone and I would be able to change volume on my pc when I pressed the volume buttons in the app on my phone. Need a fix asap thanks!
