My Question or Issue
Spotify Connect does not recognize Sonos devices. I am able to play Spotify from within the Sonos app, but not from Spotify. I can use Pandora and Audible from within their apps onto my Sonos.
Talked with both Spotify and Sonos customer service, as expected got bounced back and forth. Sonos customer service mentioned that even though Spotify was registered within the Sonos app, from the diagnostic report, it shows that Spotify is not registered. Is there some issue from Spotify here where the registration is incorrect?
When I restart the Sonos speakers (or reset my Wifi) the speakers show up briefly and then within the hour, are unavailable in Spotify Connect. On the flip side, I am continually able to see my Google Home and Chromecast devices on Spotify Connect.
To provide details on my wireless setup, both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands are on the same SSID, all devices connected as expected on non-overlapping channels - from my router information.
I've tried all the advice listed on this (and Sonos) forum, but unsure where to go from here - any help/advice would be appreciated!

Hey @captainh2ok,
Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!
If your Sonos speaker doesn't always show in your Connect picker from your iOS device, we'd be glad to suggest some troubleshooting steps.
Firstly, make sure you have a registered Sonos account and Spotify added as music service on your Sonos system. If it still does not show up, double check that you have enabled ‘Control Sonos from Spotify’ in the Sonos app under settings (this is in the Sonos app and only shows up if it is not yet enabled).
If the Sonos speaker is used to stream music in a guest mode (meaning from a Spotify account that is not linked with the Sonos system) the speaker is visible for that account only while they are connected on the same Wi-Fi network.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
I'm having the same issue. All of my Sonos speakers are listed as options in the desktop Spotify client on OS X. But my iPhone, iPad, and the Web Client on Safari do not list the Sonos speakers. iPhone, iPad, and the Web Client all list each other as options, but not the Sonos speakers. It was all working earlier today and just crapped out randomly. This has happened a few times now. I've logged out and back into my Spotify account on each of these devices to no avail. I've had Spotify control set up in the Sonos app for a long time now.
Hi there @jarrodstanley,
Thank you for your reply and for the troubleshooting you've done so far!
Can you try try re-linking your account in Sonos?
We also suggest that you try with a different internet connection to see if the issue persists.
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
Hi @Jeremy,
Thanks for your help. I did re-link the account in Sonos while I was experiencing the issue to no avail.
When I woke up the next morning. The problem had resolved itself.
Waking up today, here's which rooms are showing up on which clients via ethernet/wifi. It's very odd. This is similar to last time, except now two rooms are randomly showing up instead of none...
| Ethernet | Ethernet | Wifi | Wifi | Wifi | 5G | Wifi |
Room | Desktop Client OS X (Laptop) | Web Client in OS X Safari (Laptop) | Desktop Client OS X (Laptop) | Web Client in OS X Safari (Laptop) | iPhone | iPhone | iPad |
BR1 | X | X | X | X | X | X | X |
BR2 | X | ||||||
DR | X | ||||||
LR | X | ||||||
K | X | ||||||
Move | X | X | X | X | X | X | X |
I am using Monterey 12.1, Safari 15.2, iOS 15.3.1, and the latest versions of the Spotify and Sonos apps on all platforms.
Hey @jarrodstanley,
Thank you for keeping us in the loop and for the info you've shared.
As the issue is showing some of the speakers intermittently, could you please try to reset your router to see if it makes any difference?
Also, in case you haven't tried before, would you mind checking with a different WiFi network to see if the issue persists?
We'll be on the lookout.
Hello,
I reset my router, but it’s back to showing all my available Sonos rooms on the desktop client when connected via Ethernet, but no rooms anywhere else, including in the web client when my laptop is still connected the Ethernet.
When you recommend that I try another WiFi network, are you suggesting that I move my entire Sonos setup to new network? Or that I should try connecting my client devices to a different WiFi?
Hey there @jarrodstanley,
Thanks for your reply.
We were suggesting to try connect the devices to a different WiFi, to see if this situation occurs again. It's also worthwhile to give a soft reset (switch off and on again) of your speaker devices as well. See if this will make any difference.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
I have the same problem but with a marantz networkplayer. Sometimes the player shows up sometimes not. Once connected I can use it until someone else with another Spotify account used the device. I guess till then my account is linked and I can even connect from 4G to the player. Once someone else links his account, I have to be on the local network to find the device. I only have this problem with my android/iOS devices. My laptop(wifi) and desktop(wired) work as expected. My other network player(Ruark) doesn't have this problem.
And that's how I found out what the problem was. The marantz is connected to the 5ghz band and the ruark to the 2.4ghz band. If I'm using the desktop app(connected to the 5ghz band) the marantz shows up on "other networks" and the ruark on "this network". If I then switch my laptop to the 2.4ghz band both show up on "this network".
So to "fix" this temporary, I have to switch to 2,4ghz to see the receiver and can then switch back to the 5ghz band and use the receiver until someone else(with different Spotify account) connected to the speaker.
Why is that?
Hope this helps someone, drove me crazy last couple of months.
