Spotify Ipod syncing madness

I've been having a few problems syncing music to my new Ipod touch 5th gen. I am a premium user and have synced all of my music to my computer and yet spotify will not allow me to sync files from my computer to my Ipod, all non local files are being downloaded from the internet. If I try to put either my computer or my Ipod into offline mode I cannot sync any files, including local files that I own, I have to be connected to the internet to sync local files even though those sync rather quickly. All non local spotify files that I sync are downloading at an incredibly slow pace.

Another point that I've run across is that I cannot simply tell spotify to sync all tracks from a particular playlist, I have to create a new playlist and then start to add files, the reason for this is if I try to sync both local files and offline files it crashes my Ipod, I then have to shut it down and restart it to get it to start working again. Another reason for creating new playlists is the fact that Spotify syncs music to the Ipod in the order that it was added to the playlist, not by artist or song title, so I can end up with a very jumbled up playlist on my Ipod and I cannot change the order of songs from within the Ipod.

The most recent issue I came across was when I tried to sync the album "the metamorphis melody" from "Midnasttol", since this is a local album it synced rapidly except for one song,"A poets prayer", this track would not sync at all, it would appear in my playlist on my computer but not on my Ipod. I tried to create a new playlist with just this one song and the same thing, the playlist would show on my Ipod but it was empty. When I checked the artist page on Spotify I found that it had two entries listed for this album. On the first one it showed that all of the tracks were local files, as noted with the small music symbol on the left hand side, all except the track in question, it showed that I did not have it and if I tried to play the track on Spotify I got the message that the track was unavailable in the U.S. The track did however appear in the second listing for the album. I finally got the track to sync to my Ipod by adding the track from MY computer to my Ipod playlist and then syncing the UNAVAILABLE track to my Ipod. This did not create two listings for the song on my Ipod playlist, all this seemed to do was tell Spotify or the Ipod what the song was even though IT WAS ALREADY ON MY COMPUTER.

Can anyone explain any of this to me or give me some helpfull advice to get this to work properly.

Spotify syncs offline tracks via WiFi, by creating a type of LAN, and transferring them via that. It doesn't use the internet connection.

Maybe so, but it's not acting like it, I have wifi and it is not syncing worth a darn. Currently I am in the middle of trying to sync some of my local files to my Ipod. I had a lrge chunk of files to sync, all local files so I added them all at once. The sync read now syncing number whatever of 114 files, these synced rather quickly, once these were finished it switched to just "syncing" and my Ipod show that the smaller playlist for the other problem I was having was reading that it was syncing the other two tracks that I had unsuccsesfully tried to add to that playlist. Then without actually syncing those files it switched to saying that it was syncing file 115 out of 144.....and I'm still sitting here waiting for these to finish syncing.

Are you sycing local tracks or offline lists? What is the offline download quality setting set to?

The most current problem is with all local tracks, about 10 albums worth, it started out fine and then after that little hickup the sync speed turned to molasses, which is the normal speed for suncing any offline tracks.

All syncs have been set to normal quality, I have to sync 3400 songs so I decide to give myself as much available room as possible.

And they are all local tracks? Spotify limit offline tracks to 3,333, but I don't think it is for local tracks as well.

I have 899 Local and 2281 starred tracks, so it shouldnt be any problem.

Not to mention the fact that I fail to see how a ceiling limit would suppress the speeds up until I hit that limit.

Just ran into another song that wouldn't sync from local files, I had to go into spotifys library and sync it from there.

It has taken me 20 hours and 10gb to sync 1700 tracks. When I tried to sync to my Galaxy S3, it took 15 hours and 10gb to sync 2000 tracks. Like I stated in a previous post I have 3200 tracks which is why I purchased the Ipod. Not sure if that was a good decision or not.

Hate to say this, but both my Ipod and my samsung are syncing via internet, unless of course they've discovered a way to get into my computer while it's off. You see, last night I was syncing my samsung to a couple of new playlists I'd made, in the middle of syncing I decided I needed to roll back my pc. When I went into my phone to shut down Spotify to stop the sync I discovered that it continued to run in the background. I shut down Spotify on the pc, went back into the phone and it was still syncing at the same slow speed it had been. I shut down my computer...and it was still syncing. I let it sit there until it finished and then I shut down the app on my phone, started the app back up and then started a new download and it worked, spotify was syncing via internet and likely had been the entire time. I have no idea why this should be happening, however it does explain the extremely slow speeds that my phone and my Ipod sync. The only time that I enjoy a rapid sync is when they are local files.

I don't want to alarm you, but that was in relation to local files, which is what you said you were talking about. It downloads non-local files from the internet.

Oh, ok thanks, even though it dosen't make much sense for it to sync via internet when I already have all of songs synced to my pc, I really don't like having to download every song that I want synced multiple times accounting for each device. Hpefully this is an issue that they will address in the future and allow for better direct syncing from pc to mobile.

It does this for a reason. All the tracks are DRM locked to each individual device, so they have to be downloaded directly to that device so they can be encoded.

I believe this answers my own question - why is it taking FOREVER to sync my iPod from my local computer (wirelessly or via the cable) - because it's re-downloading all of the songs, hence I will be 101 years old by the time it completed, and the songs will be well out of fashion. Madness anyone?
